Coffee talk

I had my first cup of coffee at age 38. I didn't like the taste as a kid. They said it wasn't good for you. I read a magazine article about coffee in the Delta in-flight magazine on the way to San Antonio and brewed up my first cup in the hotel room. It was good coffee and I was hooked. My wife was happy that she now had a coffee partner.

I get the big bags of Starbucks french roast whole bean from Costco, brew it super strong and add a decent amount of 2% milk. Mmmmmmm.

My favorite place for coffee is Italy. Every cup is amazing. Espresso, americano, cappuccino... mmmmmmmmmm. The coffee that comes with the hotel breakfasts are always so damn good.

I hate coffee. It tastes like ***.

But what I hate even more is how it's a socially acceptable and encouraged drug. Every office has a coffee machine in it, but try lobbying for a cognac machine and see how far you get. You're allowed to work hopped up on caffeine but you get fired for working drunk.

I've never liked the smell of coffee, coffee-flavored items, and especially coffee itself. Tea, on the other hand . . .

Jim is a hot take machine tbh

So our coffee pot broke a while ago, just a basic cuisinart. I decided to shell out and get the Ninja Coffee Bar. Worth every penny.

I don't like coffee and I'm glad I don't. I try not to spend money on drinks when water comes right out of my fridge/tap.

Also don't like to need things. I have been around people who "haven't had their coffee" and they are irritable and in a bad mood.

Bad breath, brown teeth, more dishes to do (coffee mugs), another appliance taking up space in the kitchen.... No thanks

I have cheap French press that I use to make coffee everyday. In the summer I make cold press coffee with it. I usually just get cheap beans and grind them myself but sometimes i get good beans from Blue Copper or Publik, I think they are the best in SLC. Most studies show coffee is healthy for you if you only drink 1 to 5 cups a day. The largest study ever done on coffee that spanned a long time with a lot of people showed people who drink coffee live longer even after eliminating most other correlations. I usually just have 1 or 2. I almost always have my coffee black but every now and then throw in some cream. I'm drinking coffee now!

I love the smell of coffee. It drives my wife bat **** crazy that I make several detours through the coffee aisle every time we go to the grocery store. I'll just stand there breathing it in.

My mom was a big coffee drinker and she and I were the early risers in our house and so we would hang out and chat while she was drinking her coffee. At 13 I started asking her if I could have some coffee. At first she just told me no, but I kept asking and she finally told me that if I wanted to drink coffee I could as long as I didn't put any milk or sugar in it. I think she thought that would stop me from drinking coffee. Anyway, been drinking coffee since I was 13. Black, no sugar.

I buy the Colombian whole been coffee at Costco. I use a Hario hand grinder to grind my coffee.

and then I brew it in an aeropress

Like fish mentioned, it is definitely something I need. The very hardest part of Navy boot camp for me was the first three days when I had a massive headache because you can't have coffee in boot camp until week 5, which is actually 6-7 weeks into boot camp.

I don't do anything after I wake up until I've had some coffee. I don't buy cups of coffee from starbucks or anywhere else. I drink the coffee I make at home. It's a couple pennies for a cup of coffee, not $5.

It's an addiction, but as I said above, it's socially acceptable. Can you imagine the consequences if you casually mentioned that you're "pretty useless until I have my morning line" in a work setting?

I'm 43 years old and never had a cup of coffee in my life.

My general contempt for people in traffic livens and warms me every morning.

when i did my three years of cancer research ppl would routinely **** up experiments from pipetting errors if they didn't have their morning coffees. Hands shaking like they had Parkinson's.

The hate is strong with this one.

Coffee is a mild stimulant. And yeah, the addiction part is real. But it's not like I have to "do" coffee all day. I wake up, have two cups of strong coffee and then don't touch caffeine for the rest of the day. I want to smack people drinking coffee within 6 hours of when they're going to go to bed. That's straight dumb.

But the good news, as broncster posted, is that coffee is quite good for you. And the way I drink it, black, no sugar, a cup has 2 calories.

Excuse me while I go pour my second cup of coffee...
