Combine Athletic Test Results

Brandon Knight seems to be doing a pretty good job building muscle with no body fat.

The percentage of body fat in healthy humans ranges from 5 to 40 per cent. Females have more body fat than males. Athletes vary in body fat depending on their sport. Distance runners tend to have a low fat content. While most humans have too much fat some get carried away with trying to achieve unrealistic, unhealthy low levels. For females, body fat should not be less than 15 percent and for males, not less than 5 percent. Excess dieting can cause loss of muscle mass and strength along with fat. Most athletes perform best in the low-fat rather than the very-low-fat range.

So you are saying if we draft Brandon Knight we need to fatten him up with some of that Utah cooking?

That's EXACTLY what he's saying.

But seriously, unless you have a disorder, your body stops building additional muscle unless you have a body fat above 5%. Which is another reason his performance on the bench press is so impressive. There is a difference between bulk and cut. While Knight is cut as hell and has a good build, he could easily add more good weight.

Regardless, my point is that he is in fantastic shape and you have to love that, especially for a kid so young.

Yes I have read that he has broad shoulders and could carry additional weight quite easily.

kanter vs. al jefferson:

max vertical: 32.5 - 30.0
bench press: 14 - 3
lane agility: 11.30 - 13.08
3/4 court sprint: 3.26 - 3.29

kanter is a slightly better overall athlete than jefferson and was better in each of this tests. i think kanter will be a similar player to al jefferson but with a better outside shot, better passing and better conditioning, strength. if jefferson can block two shots a game, i think kanter can become an average shot blocker in this league while arguably, he is the slightly better defender than al jefferson. 20-10 player for the future, no way he becomes a bust. but he needs playing time, 30 minutes in his rookie season at least is fair. he's ready and to sit a whole year was enough for him. time to develop young talent, we should try to trade jefferson. we can be back in the mix within two years.

just checked the combine results of players like chris bosh, tyson chandler, ekpe udoh. kanter has a very similar athleticizm to those players. i think he is an underrated athlete and can easily play the pf position, too.

jimmer sucks because he's wite and mormen and goes to dat school down south. he sucks.

but lets also forget dos other stats, lik shoting. he sucks.

can we draft andru bogut?

So, is Jimmer wearing tights now so when you Jimmer off to his picture its not an honor code violation?

P.S. Whatever Jimmer accomplished at BYU both Miller and Bogut accomplished more, and sadly Van Horn will have a better NBA career. Heck, Doleac will probably have a better NBA career than Jimmer.

Combine numbers for likely #3 picks

From NBA insider these were the combine results for Kanter, Knight, and Walker.

Kanter: 26" Standing Vert. 32.5" Max. Vert. 14 bench presses. 11.3 seconds lane agility test. 5.66 seconds modified lane agility test. 3.26 seconds 3/4 court sprint.

Knight: 29" Standing Vert. 37.5" Max Vert. 10 bench presses. 10.74 seconds lane agility test. 5.27 seconds modified lane agility test. 3.07 seconds 3/4 court sprint.

Walker: 32" Standing Vert. 39.5" Max. Vert. 7 bench presses. 10.87 seconds lane agility test. 5.46 seconds modified lane agility test. 3.16 seconds 3/4 court sprint.

Personally I put very little stock in combine results (I think a fair way to describe many busted lottery picks is "more athletic than skilled",) but I know lots of people like seeing them.

These numbers have been out awhile now. Some of the tests are irrelevant like bench press and lane agility. Predictable lane drills are not comparable with unpredictable player movements in games.
The vertical and sprint tests do give you a quick snapshot of a guys athleticism. For instance Hayward did well in both of these but bad on lane agility.

except hayward isn't that athletic..

Anything under 5% is considered bad for the fact being that it's impossible to build muscle under 5% body fat.
I'm not sure your information is accurate. Lance Armstrong's body fat was 4% and I'm pretty sure he figured out a way to build some muscles.

The guys who run the combine sure are gonna feel like a bunch of dummies when they read this, LOL! ;D
