No, that is normal and smart drafting. We had depth at every position. We didnt need a wing or guard drafted. Planning a few years down the road, those positions are pretty deep. We do need a backup center in the future that can do some of what Rudy, does since our system is built around him. Our system is built more around Gobert than anyone else. Having a backup that can step in while he is off the court and fill in that role is huge for us. Favors has done that this year but we need to develop someone to do that for the future and we need someone that can fill in when either of them get hurt. If we had drafted a wing instead he would have been buried further than Dok is on the roster and would be for multiple years. Things can drastically change year to year as well. Thats why you draft the best prospect and dont worry about position.

Dok might be a bad pick but not for this reason at all.

It is, but Doke was also not BPA either. There isn’t an argument for drafting him except for a cyclical one (he must be good, the Jazz drafted him!).

Desmond Bane is basically putting up the same numbers as Joe Harris per minute... His TS% is a bit lower but he also doesn't get to play with 3 superstars. His team is better on both ends of the floor when he is on the court... so it isn't just empty calories.

Not sure but I’d have him ahead of Oni. Maybe he’d not play when we were short handed... but if he killed it in practice you can figure something else out. Maybe Royce and Bojan play all the 4 minutes and you cut Niangs minutes... that’s the beauty with wings/guards that can shoot pass and dribble... they can play with almost anyone.

If he re-signs, I hope it is one year at a time. Include a no-trade clause if we have to. He has been a revelation this year, and I think his contract year status is at least partly the reason why. And if he's so happy here, he should be happy getting paid one year at a time.

Lakers did the same with Caldwell-Pope a few times. Slightly overpaid him on a one year deal that included a no-trade clause.

I agree with that. He might not be good. Jazz miss at the draft a bunch. They should adjust who they decide is the best player. But that's not the argument being made by many. The argument is that it's dumb to draft a center regardless of talent. I have no idea how dok will be. That's years down the road to decide, but if you think he's the best player available like the Jazz did, then you should draft him.
