Just some tidbits from China. I am lucky to be on an island that only has 4 cases right now and no new ones in 15 days. Also the city I am has not had any cases. But people are still terrified to go out. The police drive around shutting down businesses that people are gathered at. All the bars, pool halls, Mahjong halls, clubs, KTVs, and restaruants are still closed. But lots are opening at night and just taking the chance the police show up and yell at them. Small businesses are really suffering. I guess so are big businesses but here in China I think the government will bail out the big ones like they just did with Hainan Airlines. Good news is that things are really cheap right now. I just went to Sanya which is a very nice beach city and stayed in a 1000 sqft hotel suite overlooking the ocean for dirt cheap. I found a few underground bars and places open that were pretty awesome. There are lots of college kids that went to Sanya on vacation during the new years break and got stuck here. Students arent allowed to go back to campus. My friend was on vacation in Europe and couldnt come back. She eventually gave up and flew home to Venezuela. China's economy is in real trouble before the virus and now its much worse. This will effect the world a lot even if the virus doesnt effect any other countries economy.
Bad news is that I just talked to a friend who is from Wuhan and was there in January and family is still there. She got a call that they are wanting to re test everyone. Her mom, dad, and grandma all had it. They told her that most people retested are showing positive again and still have symptoms even after they are listed as cured. Her Mom is still coughing up blood 1 month after her fever broke. But her Grandma is fine. Her dad only showed mild symptoms.
People are really upset in China that they have some many precautions and restrictions yet foreigner's coming in dont have the same. They rightfully feel like their efforts are wasted if they dont apply the same to people coming in. Beijing for example requires a 2 week quarantine for Chinese coming in. Foreigners with business can stay at a hotel and still conduct business but are encouraged to stay in as much as possible.
