What's new

Countdown to Game #1 - Utah Jazz @ Sacramento Kings

The truth hurts. WCS had 23 pts on 10-15 shooting and made Gobert his bitch on several plays. Gobert was powerless to stop the spin move and didn't affect any of his shots in the 2nd half. WCS was able to shoot over him or go around him. Not a good match up for Rudy at all.

The only starter with a positive +/- was Favors - because he was in with the 2nd unit when they made their run. The starters sucked big time on defense in the 1st and 3rd quarters; they couldn't stop anyone. Hield, Fox and WCS looked like all-stars. Great to see Quin not afraid to pull Ricky and insert Dante.
Go ahead and compare the two teams shot charts. We forced the Kings into a lot more tough shots, Buddy Heild in particular made a lot of them. Ricky's inability to stay with Fox had a lot to do with the starters defensive woes.

WCS played really well for sure, probably about as well as he is capable at this point. This wasn't close to Rudy's best game defensively but he was in no way shape or form even remotely Kanteresque. That you think so makes me think you don't understand the first thing about this team, or even just basketball in general.

Maybe that's harsh. But man, come on.

This is a bad look man... maybe just go to bed.

Single game +- is not anything to use to evaluate a player. I mean Ricky and DM were really bad to start the game.

I believe it was part of the game plan to allow the midrangers... they just made them. Rudy could have been better but he wasn’t anyone’s bitch.., he gets in highlight plays frequently because he’s not one to just let the play go uncontested. WCS could have been dunked on but backed off or wasn’t in the play.

Weapons pulled out of the bag: Exum, Ingles, Favors, Gobert, Burks
Weapons left on the shelve: Thabo (permit violation), Allen (not time to break in), Udoh
Weapons that under performed: Rubio, Royce

Rubio injured his thumb.
SAC was very physical likely because of the slaughter a few days ago. I hope no one else is injured, particularly DM who fell to the floor after a hard foul, hardly got up to shoot FTs.

Very strange win. But hey, strange things happen at the beginning of every season. GSW struggled vs half OKC team and HOU got blowned out too.

My takes:

* The game changed the second AB and Exum came into the game (or Rubio was pulled, whichever way you want to view it).

* Rubio STILL cant throw lobs to Rudy. With the new "no grab" rules and Utahs desire to use Rudy this is going to be an issue.

* I just love Exums defense. Cuts off the point of attack and instead of gambling on a steal, always channels to Gobert. They have great chemisty on both ends.

* Surprised (and delighted) Quin stayed with Exum. Although word is Rubio was hurt so Im not sure what to take from that. Surprisingly Im not advocating for Exum to start because I just love that 2nd unit and it just wouldnt work with Rubio.

* Not sure why Quin took the ball out of Exums hands in the 4th. DM is the man but let X or Ingles or Rubio initiate the offense first. Im not a fan of no one else touching the ball on a possession.

* DM with 24 on a terrible shooting night.. damn! Was just forcing early but not worried one bit.

* lmao. Ingles is a ****ing stud! Made of rubber too, that fall look nasty af!

* Finally, AB first wing off the bench... wtf would have guessed that. Property prices about to skyrocket on AB island!! @fishonjazz that beach front property looking nice now.

Actually where was Royce tonight? I've only seen the first half (gonna watch the second when i get home from work) and I'm pretty sure I didn't see him out there.

he was on for a few brief minutes. You were probably out having a smoke when he came on

Really only a few people had truly good games: Gobert, Ingles, Exum, Burks were the 4 that really stuck it most of the night. Favors bounced back and came on strong at the end. Crowder did fine, but if that is all he has to offer he won't play much. But the rest really need some work. First game jitters. Mitchell started to look in form toward the end of the night. Rubio just got out of the blocks poorly. They need some solid game tape sessions and practice before the next one. Shake off the rust, get the gears to mesh. We will still come on strong. When we are firing on all cylinders we will be impossible to beat.

alec burks was great

Dante Exum: 12 minutes, 9 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, +27 50% FG%
Ricky Rubio: 11 minutes, 0 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, -14 0% FG%

Exum had 13 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists in 26 minutes. 44% shooting and +21

He does all this while majority in here think he looks exhausted...

Fixed it for you. And its a fact that he looks exhausted. Thats not hating on him or criticizing him. Its simply true and kinda funny.
Exum played great.

I’m on a belated two-week honeymoon in Egypt, so I got to wake up at 5am to catch the second half. Lots of rust in this thang, but a lot of bright spots. Donny pulled through, Favors is reliable, Ingles is The Wizard of Aus(tralia), and of course Rudy made his mark. A bit concerned about Ricky, but I think he’ll get it back. Excited about AB and Exum. Very nice prospects for this season. Next game against GSW will be a good test.

Here's a proud pic in front of the Temple of Hatshepsut. I think it was like 217 degrees at the time.

Wow, thats bad ***.
Congrats bro. Great looking couple.

That was a good game! The young Kings were on a rampage to start the 1st and 3rd q's, Burks and Exum looked great and stopped a lot of the bleeding.

Willie Cauley Stein has improved so much its crazy to see the quality takes he's going at Rudy like that.

Derrick Favors was hilariously unstoppable, completely mauled Harry Giles -- Welcome to the league kid! Favors looked about as strong as all the Kings bigs combined in this game.

Ingles starts off the season blisteringly hot.

De'Aaron Fox looked good, even vs Exum who's a game defender.

Man, Rubio played what has to be the worst game of his career: Missed shots, turnovers (the very few good passes he had didn't add points because the shooter would miss the layup), bad defense, in foul trouble early because of a stupid foul on a 3, plus when he had to stop Cauley-Stein going for the dunk because Rudy didn't get back in time... and on and on. It felt like he had a grey cloud raining on top of him from the start. Next stop Curry, which doesn't bode well, but he tends to play him great.

It speaks volumes that it was a W. Great TEAM effort. Exum & Burks & Jae were amazing. Ingles is a boss.
