Countdown to the Rubio/Gobert pick and roll being > the Stockton Malone pick and roll

Stockton's career FG% was 52%. He had to be respected in the P&R. Rubio? May as well double Gobert and let Rubio drive in for a layup, which he usually misses. Didn't this board jokingly track "MLA's" when Harpring played? Bring back the stat for Rubio!

Unless Rubio improves his shooting, teams are going to stop Gobert - and cover Hood and Ingles behind the arc - and just let Rubio take a ton of shots.

As terrible as this thread is, Bats did leave us the link to Rubio shooting 53% on long 2's off the bounce

Rudy should eat plenty. Rubio, Hood and Ingles are savvy offensive players. We should see a bunch of plays resulting in Rudy tearing the rim off of the backboard.

This might have been the worst thread of jazzfanz history. And Mexico is an idiot!!

Can u imagine Stockton and Malone Running pick' roll in today's game. We would score 120pts a game because Hood Ingles Stockton Mitchell and others would be shooting uncontested threes all day long. Or if they guarded the three Malone would get 40 points a game we have to remember the the 3 ball wasn't utilized back then the way it is now. I don't have the stats, but I'm willing to bet that they shot 8-13 every game compared to the 25-30 they shoot now. Stockton and Malone in this era would've been crazy unstoppable, I bet Malone would've had a 3pt shot in his game had he played in this era.

The 96-97 Jazz had an offensive rating of 113. Our current Jazz have an offensive rating of 110.

Frankly I am shocked that Rubio cant pass this year. Gobert has been poor in the pick and roll which is a big drop off from being the top guy last year. I did not expect that Rubio would forget how to pass.

Obviously no one (myself included) thought Rubio Gobert would be in the same conversation as Stockton and Malone. But I did think they would run the pick and roll more efficiently since both of them individually last year were more efficient in the pick and roll than Stockton and Malone were in their best year. Its not a big jump to guess they would do well together in that roll. Maybe they need more time together to work on it since they have hardly played together but I am ready for less Rubio now.

You cant call someone an idiot and then proceed to make a dumb post like this. Its embarrassing for you. Oh wait... Forgot who I was talking to.

Yes of course if you take our best players in Jazz history and put them with an entire good team that team would be good. Literally any team in the NBA would be really good if you took the two best players in franchise history and added them to their roster.

Stockton and Malone would be good in this era but probably not as good as they were in their own era unless they both changed their game a lot. Which is a possibility but just a guess.

They played the way they did, because that's how the game was taught. Had they played today they would've been taught a different style and had different indoctrination taught to them about the way basketball was supposed to be played. Malone didn't even come into the league with a 20 ft jumper. I'm pretty sure he'd have developed a 3pt shot had he been playing today's game
