Dallas trading Luka to the Lakers for Anthony Davis! Utah involved.

Just incredible to me this was the best they could do.

Even if they’re dead-set insistent on getting Anthony Davis, I just struggle to accept there was no other way to secure more draft capital. But maybe I’m wrong.

Either way, the Lakers are thrilled which makes the universe sad.

Insane that Dallas didn't try to create a market for Luka, even if their intention was to send him to LA. Dallas could have angled for more players or another FRP from the Lakers.

May be the only one but i don't think it's such a bad trade for Dallas. Luka is talented but the way he take care his body, he will got more and more issues and he does not play defense. On my opinion, Dallas goes all in and try to win this year with AD at his prime ( and healthy). Risky strategy but we know at the end of the season if they were right.
I also think that Cuban were not willing to pay supermax for Luka is he think he can't win with him. Time will tell. But if Luka is healthy, it make LA a serious contender this year. They just need another big and they will be tough to beat.

The most baffling thing is that anyone would be dead-set on getting the 2025 Anthony Davis.

I mean, you have a player that 27 out of the 29 other teams in the league would probably trade anyone on the roster for, and you don't shop around, you go "Yes, the time has come! We can finally get Anthony Davis."

It is bad for Dallas. The problem is how little value they got for Luka. Almost every single team in the league could have put together a much better offer. Also, AD is injury prone and past his prime. And to get only one 1st and no Austin Reeves...

It's nuts. They could have waited until the off-season and get Lauri and all the picks. Or creating a bidding war between teams full of assets.

Finally, they are not beating OKC with AD and Kyrie. Heck, they might not make to the playoffs...

Look, I'm about the most anti-conspiracy theory person I know, but after seeing this trade and the Lakers getting a young MVP candidate without giving up most of the farm to get him... It does make you wonder

You really think they'd be interested in "I'm just a guy now" Lauri with his $240 million deal as the centerpiece of a deal?

If you give them Lauri, Kessler (add young talent in this slot), picks, it's still a much better offer than 32 old AD and 1 pick.

I'm not implying our offer was the BEST. Just that that Dallas could have created a market and get much better offers from several teams compared to what they got. That's the whole point.

Also, Lauri is not "just a guy"

Tell me this wouldn't have been better for the Mavs...

They want a defensive center, right? Davis isn't it.

Add in 4 1sts. There are multiple ways to make the numbers work. Drop Sexton, add Collins. Swap Clarkson with Hendricks... I mean... Kings ransom type stuff there.

Maybe Dallas wanted a star player that can help them win now.
If we were the trade partner we would have definitely had to give them Lauri at a minimum.

Oh I agree. Just demonstrating how the tanking has straight up destroyed Lauri's trade value.

As I said earlier, not trading Markkanen within a year of his All Star selection (if you knew we were going to tank hard in 24-25 anyway) was a massive mistake.

what tf do we have that the Mavs would want ?
I think a Lauri, sexton, 3 firsts would be more desirable than what the Lakers gave up.

You may be right. But considering that Luka could have 345 Millions extension, the fact that he is coming out of shape each off season....i think they think about this as well. For me it's a kind of all in for Dallas this year. Let's see the result in 4 months.
