What's new

Dame Time

He's going to demand out of Portland because he hasn't been able to contend there to go to another small market team that isn't close to contention, makes sense.
Except that the Jazz supporting cast is better than the Portland supporting cast and we have a bunch of assets we could use to fill in some gaps lol.

Lauri would be the best teammate Dame has had since Aldridge? Walker would be a player type Dame has never had. We would still have a bunch of flexibility to add around him as well.

Currently he hopes Grant re-signs and has another small guard as his co-star... they are essentially capped out and have limited ability to trade picks.

I don't think he loves the SLC market so much that he'd leave Portland to come here and not contend, if he asks out he's going to be seeking a championship level situation, just like every other superstar player that has asked out.

If we're serious buyers for other pieces are we just going to gut all of our draft assets to chase a championship with Dame/Lauri?

Boston could offer Smart, Williams, and draft picks. What can we offer that's better than that?
What picks? They have already traded a bunch... how much extra salary are they adding to those two... and wtf does Portland do with Smart and Williams if they are rebuilding.

Its partly about his new destination but also partly just getting out of Portland... their ownership situation sucks and they aren't really going anywhere.

So what exactly are we trading for Dame in this scenario if we're keeping Kessler? They're going to part ways with him and the best young player they're getting back is Ochai Agbaji?

I like Dame and Lauri but that's not getting you a championship without another All-Star level talent and a great group of role plays.

Whatever picks they can trade, I haven't checked it. Why would they want a 25 year old All-NBA defensive center if they're rebuilding? Grant Williams could also be a part of a potential package as well.

With as much as he has preached loyalty and the grind, I don't think he's asking for a parallel move, he's going to want to contend.

The Raptors could offer some combination of FVV / GTJ / OG + draft picks, for fun lets just say they gave up FVV / OG and draft picks for him.

Dame - GTJ - Barnes - Siakam - Poeltl

That's infinitely closer to contention than any roster we could realistically put together.

Are you talking about the Toronto team that is currently worse than the Utah Jazz? That Toronto team? I'm also assuming that Portland has no use for a FVV who is looking for a new contract. They would want someone bigger to pair with Simmons.

Draft picks and a clean cap sheet. That would be pretty valuable for Portland.

Yes that Raptors team that has Siakam who has been of the better players in the league for years, Scottie Barnes one of the best young players in the league, and other proven good players like GTJ, Poeltl, etc. Not to mention they have a proven championship level head coach and just won a championship after they traded for a superstar player a couple of years ago.

28-year old PG that guaranteed them Kawhi?
What incentive do the Blazers have to trade away their franchise player unless they're getting back a kings ransom that includes 1-2 good young players and multiple FRPs?

You guys think we're getting a top 15 player for 2 picks and Agbaji, lol.

We don't need to. Westbrook comes off the books, and we can absorb a large portion of what Lillard makes with no compensation on salary.

This. We actually could absorb his entire contract if we wanted to. If Clarkson signs somewhere else and include Sexton in the deal we could still have max cap space after the trade.

They have no cap space and not a lot of assets to get better? They also have two young guards who could take the reigns after a Lillard trade.

Portland isn't exactly a FA destination though so having cap space doesn't really change much for them. If they trade him they're going to get a nice haul of at least 1/2 young players and multiple premium picks. I just find it hard to believe that they'd be thrilled about a package where Agbaji was the best player coming back to them unless they're also getting 4 unprotected FRPs.

I would assume if it happens it would be a draft day deal and they would be taking our first two picks. Guaranteeing two of the picks are lottery or near lottery is a pretty good deal. Obviously there would be other compensation. I would also assume that only Kessler and Lauri are off the table player-wise.
