Dame Time

Where's the reports saying he wants to go here. I see he only wants to go to an Eastern contender

I really don’t know how much say he has as to where he wants to go, nor should he , Portland have a job to do to get as much back for him for their team .

Enter Utah

I think the discussion here is very different from the discussion Jazz FO is having.

I think the two biggest doubts they would have are:
1) Package type
2) Opportunity cost

Portland said they are still in win now mode despite Dame leaving. Thats a problem for anyone trading for Dame since the package cant be centered around future assets. We would rather deal with a rebuilding team.

Second is the opportunity cost. If another player who fits our need and timeline better (say Luka) becomes available we are not gonna be happy we went for Lillard.

Personally I think if #1 changes and we can build a package without key vets or core pieces then we need to seize this opportunity.

This isn’t my understanding. My takeaway, and what WOJ said on ESPN, was that they wanted a return that reflected a superstar-level trade. WOJ went on to say that might include immediate cap relief, young players, and draft assets.

I think their statements are conveying they don’t plan to just accept a subpar offer from the Heat.

Yes, this is 100% correct.

Direct statement from Cronin was: “We have been clear that we want Dame here but he notified us today he wants out and he’d prefer to play someplace else. What has not changed for us is that we’re committed to winning, and we are going to do what’s best for the team in pursuit of that goal,”

HoopsHype had that phrased a bit differently after they had just released it which lead me to believe there was more to it than that phrase but they since retracted that article so I assume it was a bit of a clickbait. The rumors that they are looking to deal Grant speak louder about a rebuild though, so lets assume they will take a package centered around future pieces.

Lol what else is he supposed to say? We’re going to play the young guys and get a top pick next year?

What has not changed is that the Blazers were absolutely shameless tankers twice in two years.

I don't know if this has already been quoted in here, but I saw it in an article and thought it was relevant:

“There may be, (say,) one game changing player that becomes available this summer. But any time there will be a game changing player involved, we’re in the game, we’re in the conversation. You just have to temper it because you can’t rush into bad decisions”
- Danny Ainge

lmao are you serious? That is a press statement, he doesnt have to say anything except everything he wants to say.

My whole point was that was taken to "Blazers looking to get immediate impact players in return for Lillard" type of articles, and when I read those I didn't realize that press statement was the only clue they said that for.

Woj just said they want salary cap relief, young players and picks.

Saying that they are committed to winning doesn't mean they want win now pieces. Committed to winning likely means doing what is in the best interest of the franchise to compete for a title. As of now that means as many assets as possible.

I think this is mostly posturing. Eventually they cave to Dames wishes when the Heat give them everything they can. It will require the picks, Jacquez, Jovic, eating Nurks contract… it will also depend on finding a home for Herro.

Herro+Lowry+Jacquez+Jovic for Dame and Nurkic… plus all the draft comp they can offer. If Martin helps them with finding a home for Herro and getting something back… then he will be required too.
