Dante Exum re-signed

This is insane, imo, and I apologize to whomever it was I mocked for saying Exum would get $12M. The Jazz are really doubling down on the whole Exum as a legit prospect/cornerstone thing. Hope I'm wrong, but I disagree.

Rubio

Rubio

Did you even watch Dante when he came back?

Rubio gets 14 mill a year and we're paying a bust of a player 11 mill. No way we can resign Rubio next year. Dude deserve AT LEAST double what Exum makes

So the Jazz may have overpaid Exum $4 or $5 million, but that is cheap insurance for DL. If Dante stays healthy, he will be the first guard off the bench this season and, if he becomes the player we thought he would be, he should be amenable to a contract extension with the Jazz.

People need to wake up to the fact that as a small market team trying to re-sign free agents to budget deals is not a good long term strategy. In part these deals are about the front office learning their lesson after what happened with Hayward. Maybe we could have built a little more goodwill with him if we hadn't tried to let the market set his value.

I dont buy into any of that. He was gone regardless.

I love this deal. Sure, it's high-risk high-reward given his spotty health history, but the kid is still only 22 and his body has developed a ton. Still think he'll be a very good player. Even if he doesn't develop his shot or midrange game, his floor as a terror defender and guy who can get to the rim at will is probably worth his $11M. Health is the only issue.

I also like the fact we signed him outright and didn't force him to find a deal on the open market and then match (maybe he had an offer for the same amount, who knows). Sounds like we're building a players-first program that takes care of our own. $11M is a lot in the current market, says a lot about how much the organization values him.

"When healthy" Which is 20% of a season.
He has played 50% of games since being in the NBA. But he is healthy now so there is no reason to assume a future of injury more than another player.

A player being a bust has nothing to do with trust the GM or coach, it's the fact that he's bad

Statistically he was pretty good in his minutes this year. So its not a fact.

No options, huh? Whelp, we screwed that one up. The Favors deal I get because we can get out of it or he plays into it. It's essentially a one year gamble with no real risk.

Exum's contract was a straight over pay in this market. The Jazz are gambling on future potential here. I get that and doing a mulligan contract to see if he pans out. But Dante has yet to really be healthy since his rookie season. He has all the tools, but he must out it together. Or else we just replaced Burks' deal with Exum's. X has that D part of 3D down. But that 3 must develop.

At $11M/yr I wonder how often we see Royce play in front of Dante going forward... Or is it finally time to take that leash off?
