David Locke twits about Pau Gasol.

David Locke seems to be yapping about the Jazz Trading for Pau Gasol.

Do you do this? Basketball reasons is a no brainer, but the financial implications can be big.

Here are some links and twits

David Locke: Yes, Al Jefferson and Raja Bell nets Pau Gasol but eats 19.3 into the cap space for next season - only saves Lakers real $ in 13-14 about 6 hours ago

David Locke: Gasol makes 19 this year and 19.3 the next year - Lakers could take back as little as 14.3 in salary however if over tax must take 15.8 about 6 hours ago

David Locke: I have the Lakers will 11 players and at 88 million, next year they have 70 million with 5 players plus Bynum - can they keep Gasol about 6 hours ago

Locke's hypothetical is Pau Gasol for Al Jefferson straight up. This would take away cap space for next year but improve our team in the now. Would you do this? I think I would.

I don't know, I'm not a big fan of Pau Gasol, we should have a right system for him to be at his best.

It depends though on the trade details, but I don't like to spend my brain energy on hypothetical trades unlike most of us. So I'm lazy on trade threads.

I wouldn't. Not for both. As much as I think Al needs to go in my mind it's a toss up for just him for Gasol. Add Millsap and it's a solid no. Add to that all the salary and it'd be like the Jazz were counting on Gasol to be the superstar to take us all the way. I just don't think Gasol is that guy.

The hypothetical is for Gasol for Jefferson, straight up. I think I would do it because we would be able to have a twin towers with Favors and Gasol. I don't think Gasol would carry the entire burden.

However, I don't know if I can stomach a season of him making this face after every call...

And the flopping.

One thing I would consider in such a trade is how the Lakers will be desperate to move Gasol and if they would bargain away valuable things.

Because it would be awesome to damage the Lakers.

Yeah, the reality is is that the Lakers would never agree to this trade in the first place. Locke is just blowing smoke. Could you imagine the first time Kobe passes the ball to Jefferson, and Jefferson shoots through a triple team. Kobe would go unglued. It'd be great.

Yeah, I posted just after waking up. Not sure where I saw Millsap's name. DOH!

I doubt this happens especially since the Lakers traded most of their picks to the Suns. The Jazz would need some picks because they are taking on more salary. I think Paul is a better fit than AJ for the Jazz but I would be afraid that Paul would be depressed getting traded to the Jazz. He is probably excited about playing for Nash or going back to Memphis to play with his brother so ending up in Utah would certainly be a downer for him.

I'd take him. He had a rough year last year but I think he would thrive on the jazz next to favors. Also he plays a lot smarter than al Jefferson. He passes the ball out and he has playoff and finals experience. Could be a great leader. I think bringing something different to the table is exactly what we need. KOC is blowing up the roster it seems but it looks like he is keeping together the fantastic four. Exactly what I wanted. Especially if we could lose al and raja. On the other hand I think the lakers say no

So there's now a new player playing for the Lakers..... Paul Gasol.

Hell yes to Gasol.

We would have to get some great picks in order for this to be worth it. How do the Lakers furnish these?

This totally destroys our cap space + it leaves Favors and Kanter buried in the rotation. And, all for a guy that has a couple years left.

Sounds good on paper, but isn't he really better as a PF? I've read where Favors does NOT want to play C. If both true, we'd have a MAJOR logjam at PF, or a couple of unhappy C's...

No, we would just need Gasol.

Was this your toilet paper roll, word of the day? Noticed you used it a couple times in the GD forum as well.

So, am I being parsimonious as well?

If you are it is not for the same reasons as Cy. Freaking baby. Get him NAOS.
