This has been explained elsewhere as well. Now we know that the little green squares have a definite formula. Rep power much more arbitrary. It is calculated based on several variables that Jason and Colton can fu....uh, mess with. So every now and then Colton adjusts those variables to pull everyone else down below the arbitrary "8" of the Admins. The Admin rep power is set by typing in a number. And the formula, as it changes, effects people differently. Trout and I have gone back and forth ahead of each other. With one iteration, I had more rep power, with this iteration Trout does, even though I have more rep overall.

I'm probably wrong here but it's my understanding that you get a green bar for every x amount of pos reps. If it's one per 50 pos reps and you have 186 pos reps, you'd have 3 green bars. However, your rep power may be based on a combination of other factors like how many neg reps you have (in correlation to how many pos reps you have?) and how many pos or neg reps you've handed out. Or some **** like that. Basiccally you need to work at ****ing NASA to really know what the ****'s going on.
 
The green squares depend on rep alone.

Your rep power depends on rep, #posts, and how long you've been a member.

Incorrect -- as far as I know the green squares are representing your total rep (which includes positive as well as negative reps)

In the last "adjustment" it appears the length of membership was weighted heavier than it has been in the past. That probably explains people with similar post counts having higher rep power than people with higher absolute rep, kind of what Milsapa was talking about.
 
Who the hell is salmonhobo? He's got 8 rep power and over 5000 posts and I don't know who he is.
