What's new

Dennis Lindsey: We will be VERY active in free agency

Drives coaches crazy with mental mistakes... Missed rotations etc.

Yeah Covington.

I wouldn't mind Johnson. That is just the rep he has... Don't think he is a problem off the court at all.

As a 5th wing/4th big he's certainly worth a taking a chance on (because he'll come cheap).

If... If he was cheap. Someone may talk themselves into an overpay there.

I agree btw if he was cheap I'd deal with his imperfections.

Handlogten's Heroes 4 GM.

The smart move is to let everyone else spend themselves stupid this offseason I would generally say. I like Deng but it just doesn't seem like it can work for all sides, and the numbers floating around Solomon Hill are just insane. I'm sure there's a good find somewhere, but with the roster mostly set, big contracts coming up, and a possible cap contraction, I think it would be smart to zag against everyone's zigging.

Also, using cap to renegotiate Favors' deal sounds like a great idea. The more cap we have this year, the easier it would be to do that. Is it possible to do something like that with Hayward, even for just a season?

No cant do it with Hayward... Could do it with hill but word is his agent is saying no.

Save 11 M to get it done and wait until some of the guys are seeing the good destinations disappear. Make the one year ainge special offer.

I just think we should be able to find the next Solomon hill for less.

Yeah, you folks just love spending other people's money. Fact remains that the cap is going up a MAX of 30% from last year. Add on next year where it will go up another 20%. So, some teams will over pay on salary to get their guy, but raises should be projected for 30% - a 50% on the very high.

If someone is giving a player more than a 40% raise, then it is money I wouldn't be willing to spend.

Solomon Hill is on a rookie salary, so his value may normally be about $3 - $5 million before this inflation. If his stock is high due to drama d green flexibility, perhaps you could see him make $5.5 as a terrible contract for a dumb team. Now, add 50% to that and we are talking $4.5 low analysis to $7.5 high analysis. Anything beyond that is absurd. If he makes $13 million, then leave him for the piranhas of the league. They will regret it as usual (see knicks for the last 15 years) and wait to bargain shop.

If everyone spends like that, there just isn't enough money folks. If you get a cap to go up 30% but you give people a 80-200% raise like many suggest... you run out of cash. GMs arent that dumb. There will be funny money. You betcha. But they will reget it.

My proposal is for high quality vets like Gasol and Deng for funny money to reach the floor and to give us vet presence aND to ensure we get it. Perhaps a steal with someone who felt left out of the tea party. Call it a summer.

Anyone interested in James Ennis... went 24-50 last 9 games of the year from 3... better sample size than Hill's shooting... same kinda build. Never really given a shot. Will cost waaaaaaaaaaay less than Hill.

Only issue I have is tying what a player is worth to previous salary... especially off of a rookie deal.

I do think Hill could be worth every penny of a 12 M deal to the right team... Like NO that needs rotation players badly and could use him in several spots as an upgrade. He doesn't do that for us... would be an average bench SF option and not many minutes available at the 4... if any.

I wouldn't mind a SF like Gerald Green - plays defense, can hit the three and would be a cheap contract.

Does not play defense... Has some off court stuff... no thanks.

"“Defense. Defense. Defense. I live and breathe defense right now,” Green said Monday after practice. “Offense just comes too easy for me.

“It always has, man. Confidence is everything in basketball. I just have a lot of confidence on that side, and now defensively I’m getting confidence.”

Coach Erik Spoelstra loves to hear Green talking that way. Green was never considered a defensive stalwart on any of his previous seven teams. But this season under Spoelstra’s encouragement, Green has become much more respected for it.

He’s coming off the bench on most nights and holding opponents — often the best scorers in the league — to 42.2 percent shooting, roughly 0.6 percent below their average.

“I’ve always felt I could play defense, but people used to always talk so bad about me defensively,” Green said. “This is the first team that honestly never talked crazy about my defense. It motivates me to go out there and want to do more.”

Not saying the guy is Kawhi but I'd rather sign him than have the Jazz pay $12,000,000 a season to Hill....

Wait he said he plays defense and his coach did too... He's not the defensive liability he was in PHX, but no thank you. Any newspaper clips about him losing his **** in the hotel lobby?

Dude was legit taking flakka. Crazy guy.

Evidently, flakka caused him to play better defense as it all went down at the beginning of last season. Maybe Boozer and Al Jefferson should try it. Jimmer could do it too and become an NBA-caliber player.
