What's new

Dennis Lindsey

DL did great - Western conf. just got so much better and that was a factor Hayward choose easiest path to the finals. Look Denver with Milasap. Wolves with Butler Teague, OKC with PG13. Houton with CP3. -
I think that is both. DL won't make bad trade. and unfortunatelly he haven't got real a plan B.

Moves for the sake of making moves is the absolute stupidest thing DL can do right now. The worst thing we can do after losing Hayward is to compound the loss by screwing ourselves by giving bad contracts just for the sake of simulating activity.

Losing the Silent Cipher to Boston stung everyone.

As angry and betrayed as the fans felt, I bet Lindsey felt much worse.

He thought George Hill was his friend, he wasn't. He thought Hayward was sincere, probably not.

He thought he would spend his summer adding complimentary pieces, not restructuring the team's blue print.

lindsey is meticulous in his preparation, intelligent and always professional...and nothing went his way.

Meanwhile, Scott Layden looks like a genius in Minnysoda because of circumstances.

It's not fair its just life.

But what I hated, was DL played the buddy buddy card and trusted that what was in place would do the job to sway Hill and Hayward staying.

He was WRONG.

I mean he totally misread two people. And he basically bet a huge slab of the teams short term success on being right.

Lame. Plus he has whiffed on a couple of lottery picks (here's hoping Exum pans out).

I also think he got rid of Lyles at a horrible time. Did he get Mitchell as a replacement for Exum down the track or as a future SG. I'm not even sure that pick makes 100% sense.

I can't hate on DL too much - he drafted the X man. So he will look like a genius within 2 years :)

Maybe he should have sought an assurance from Hayward last off season. And traded him if he didn't get it.
And why doesn't he have a Plan B?

That's Dante Exum this year. I think DL said that.

Slightly depressing considering how DL's predictions have turned out thus far.

I just think the way he negotiated with Hill and Hayward sounded naive. I mean, its cutthroat business. He trades Lyles after 2 years and expects to be treated any differently from others? He was blindsided. Hill not extending for 20 per (if that really is the number) should have been enough to consider trading him at the deadline!!

Mitchell - incomplete but looks good so far.
Rubio - good player for nothing. A.
Hayward - epic fail. F to the highest degree.

IF Mitchell becomes an All star and Rubio takes a step forward, Lindsey did well.

If Mitchell and Exum don't become starters at minimum, Lindsey lost his job this summer.

I don't think Utah makes the playoffs this fall. We've lost too much and everyone else has gained too much.

We have no #2 player. Who is it? Hood? Ha ha. Ingles? Rubio? Yikes.

I called it awhile back.

If Exum busts out - so does DL. He can't be wrong with his lottery picks 3 times in a row.

When you get picks 23 and 27 right, you should get some credit. But when you can't get picks 5, 9 and 12 right - it makes Gobert and Hood seem more like luck.

After losing Haywood it was smart of Lindsey to take a minute to breathe and re-evaluate the situation and the teams future plans with his staff instead of making an impulse move. The roster isn't in terrible shape despite losing Haywood. We have a lot of young talent and a good cap situation moving forward. He'll find us a few good moves this summer I'm sure. Right now is tough for us as fans. After everything that's happened we are dying for good news of some kind. I know that I for one have been antsy and anxious over the last few days to see us do something. But I fully understand why we haven't yet.

He didn't misread the Hill situation, they offered him an extension and he refused it thinking he was worth more. DL was not going to re-sign him after that and went after the Rubio situation. You could say he should have kept the draft pick and not traded for Hill but he did that in hopes that Hayward would stay.

The majority of Jazz fans thought he would stay. DL did a lot to ensure he would stay but most people underestimated the relationship between Stevens and Hayward.

Overall, I think DL has done a great job. Heck I wished we had him during the S&M years because maybe he could have gotten that third guy the Jazz need to push us over the top. I think DL has his job as long as he wants to because the Jazz organization is know to keep their employees a long time.

It's easy to look at stuff in hindsight and think woulda shoulda coulda..

Sometimes people make a judgement call and can be wrong. What is important is their thinking behind it.
I don't disagree that Dennis has made mistakes.. However, I am pretty sure he weighs his options carefully and works hard to gather and go over the data to make his decisions..He is also open to admitting that he has made mistakes.. I'm happy with his best efforts.

Considering the Hayward situation I think Dennis Lindsey has been smart to not make a move out of desperation. As he has said in interviews they want to see what Hood can do. Tony Jones also said that the Jazz like Tobias Harris and it seems like Detroit did not want to trade him. When you consider how little we had to give up for Rubio and Donovan Mitchell I think you could give him an A+ (If you exclude the Hayward fiasco.) If there is a move that will move the needle Dennis Lindsey will pull the trigger.

I disagree. He maybe has had some draft fails but he has done well not to overpay players. I think this could important come two years from now. During this time we need to see what Exum, Hood, and Mitchell can do anyways. Then, while a lot of teams will have little to no cap space we will be able to make some great moves. http://www.spotrac.com/nba/free-agents/2019/

Mitchell has so much more upside than Lyles so it made sense to make that trade. Mitchell is a combo guard I don't think he's directly competing with Exum.

This entire offseason (except the draft, kind of bizarrely), was about retaining and building around Hayward. He took for ****ing ever, and by dragging his feet, he took the Jazz out of the running for their next two contingencies (Gallinari, Porter). After all of that (including taking on $27 million, pushing the Jazz that much closer to the cap), the Jazz have been left in no man's land: not an appealing free agency for the scraps left on the market, not a ton of cap room to sign players and absorb other team's dead salary/picks.

We all got dealt a **** ****ing hand. And we deserve to be bitter about it, if only for how Hayward went about The "Indecision".

There isn't anything obvious to do because it isn't obvious what the Jazz should do given the realities of the situation.

I'll give him a C+ for the offseason for getting DM and not giving up much. I thought it was kind of a pass or fail offseason based on if Hayward returned but I think we are in a position to bounce back quickly.

Why do people bring up Gallinari and Porter?

The Jazz didn't miss out in them and Hayward had nothing to do with that.

Hasn't Washington said they will match Porter?

No loss there.

And Gallinari...there isn't a soul on earth that would pick SLC over LA. Sorry.
