What's new

Dennis Schroeder-PG Germany about to blow up!

Did he really say that? And what was Greg & Mama's response?

I think it was around the time we could have traded up to get Cousins if my memory serves me correctly.. the question was "Would you considered drafting Cousins if he's there when we pick?"

I finally got around to watching the Summit game, and I really liked what I saw. He didn't just go out there and have a fluke of a game on scoring, he actually ran that team. If he was playing with some more offensively competent bigs, his assists would have been like 13 rather than 9. 9 is still a great number for any game. His lateral quickness was elite (as has been pointed out), and his wingspan is freakishly beautiful. I see stardom in him, which is a very risky thing to say off of just one game, but this game didn't seem like he was just getting lucky, his poise made it believable. Also, in the scouting video, which is a year old, they say his mid range needs work, but he drained a nice mid range in this game and looked confident doing so. Maybe he's been working on his mid range? At 19, I think his upside is way too high to pass on.

I think him and MCW have the best body/athleticism for the NBA, but Schroeder has a better all around game. I want Schroeder the most out of anyone in this class. I think the Jazz would be wise to draft two PG's, possibly even three in this draft. Something like:

14: Schroeder (if his combine and workouts are good, we may need to move up).
21: McCollum (probably won't be there) or Lorenzo Brown
Second ROund: Nate Wolters.

Wolters has a great game, but no athleticism, but he has a good size. It's a complete gamble with him, but one that is definitely worth the risk with our second round pick, or maybe even our GSW pick if there is no McCollum, MCW, Brown, Giannis, or Kabongo available.

The competition among rookie PGs will be intense, and as such we will see their greatest work ethic and potential the quickest.

Good post! Rep'd

Absolutely.

My fear is Dallas will take him before us at #13. They've got Dirk & Kaman there, they need a future PG. Schroeder would be a GREAT fit for them.

Then that more than likely means that Austin or McCollum would fall and be available. There are options in that range.

Schröder will be super all star you hear it from me 1 !!

Thanks for the PM, flip. Glad to know we have someone here that's seen these kids play in person.
Sorry for the long PM but there are too many fakes around here and I wanted to sort out what you really know.

Oh, and thanks for the heads up on that other kid from Spain for next year.. I'll check him out.

I've only been able to watch the first half of the Hoops Summit, but it's clear that Shroeder is legit. He would have had 3 more assists in that half alone if his bigs had better hands.

I still question whether he'll be ready for the NBA next year. What are you guys thinking about a one-year stash in Europe versus bringing him over?

What good does stashing him do? Better competition here. Has an opportunity to grow with your young guys.

it gives us more productive years on his rookie-scale contract. And, he isn't playing against scrubs right now. If he spends a year learning to finish, controlling turnovers, and figuring out how to drive left, then it was a year well spent. <-- a year we don't have to pay for.

He's already going to have to adjust to the NBA game and the competition really is so much better. I'd rather throw him in the fire now.

Do you want another year of Mo or Tinsley or Watson? Cause if that is the case then stash him.

I personally would like to see him brought over.

Might as well bring him over. The Jazz don't play Rookies anyways, so if he stays in Europe he won't get any PT here until almost 2016.

Wherever he plays next year, I hope for his sake he gets major minutes. He seems to be learning and improving a lot right now. He needs to play thru that, not get buried on a bench.

Everything NAOS has said, and I'll raise it by saying to basically gut the team of veterans, use the draft to stash picks, ensure Ty is gone AND the Jazz have a good pick in 2014. Have it all come together from that point on.
