What's new

Deron is coming back to Utah.

I think D Will coming back would be great, but it's not going to happen. I agree that KOC is not doing his job if he doesn't call, but sheesh, what an awkward conversation that would be! Imo, the trade was handled extremely poorly. Deron is going to Dallas, most likely.

Go for Nash. Point guards don't win championships, but point guards on teams with front lines like ours? Just maybe...

Maybe, just maybe, KOC is smart enough to realize he doesn't need to pay max money to a tempermental PG. Especially when he has built up a young corps of bigs. You win championships with bigs, not with PG's. As great as Steve Nash has been, he's never won a thing. Jason Kidd was never able to win a ring until he was on a team in which he wasn't the focal point and the bigs were.

Don't get me wrong, Deron on this team would be deadly. The problem is, Deron wants max money. Tha'ts not going to work for Utah. Bringing in Deron at max money eventually means saying goodbye to some key pieces on this team that we are currently excited about. No thanks.

Wow.. really good post. Repped.

I agree on the max money thing. I believe if KOC does his job properly Jefferson & Millsap could be signed for a combined amount similar to a max. contract going forward (i.e., around $8-$9m each). Then he'll have enough money left to lock up Hayward and Favors going forward.

Is Deron worth Millsap AND Jefferson combined?!?! He's good, but not that good.

You win with defense and elite guard play AND bigs. Every champion has played outstanding defense, had elite guards and dominate big men. The Jazz have potential with their bigs, Deron gives them an elite guard, and they have potential for defense. Look at ths lineup:

Deron - elite pg. one of the best pg defenders out there
Hayward - a very, very good defender
Carrol - good defender. Good 3 pt shooter
Jefferson - elite post scorer
Favors - one of the best big man defenders

That team has a shot. Without deron? You get this mess we are watching now.

Yes, Deron is worth Jefferson and Millsap. Deron took us to a WCF. Jefferson and Millsap lost to Charlotte twice and barely made the playoffs. HUGE difference.

Unlike Deron, who lead the Nets to such glory.

Yeah, it's fair to say that Deron led us to the WCF, but he had pretty good pieces to work with. He doesn't have those pieces in NJ. If he came back, he'd make us a contender with what we have now. But keep on dreaming - it aint happenin!'

The Jazz are a Deron and a three point shooter away from contending. It's simple, when we get GS's pick, trade Burks and pick for Thompson and another future first, amnesty Jefferson and resign Deron. Then we are set up.

well said, except the jefferson part

The defense starts in perimeter and ends in the post. Deron and Jefferson will take us back to our messed up defense back in the days with Boozer

Anyone who thinks KOC can just pick up the phone and call Deron or even Billy King and get back Deron for nothing is living in LaLa Land.

*shakes head*

Who cares about Billy King? Deron is a free agent.

Not this again.. KOC signing Deron as a free agent is basically giving the middle finger to every GM in the league (King included).

What do we do when we need to ship our next star out of town? Nobody will do business with us knowing what we did with Deron (shafted Nets for Favors, Kanter, Harris).

The Jazz didn't shaft the Nets at all. We gave them what they wanted. It's not our fault that Dwight never came and the DWill didn't commit. If we give them a decent package, we're doing them a favor. DWill is only going to sign with a few teams, and those teams will be the market for the Nets in a sign-and-trade.

Keep in mind, the Nets went all-in for D.Will. Now they're going to get next to nothing for him, unless they can trade Brook Lopez to Orlando for Dwight. On top of that, Gerald Wallace is opting out also. They're going to have to do a complete rebuild.

If DWill is willing to sign with Utah longer term, then the Jazz are players for him, along with presumably the Lakers, the Mavs and the Knicks (although it would be an unequivocal slap in the face to Brooklyn if DWill ended up in Manhattan).

If Utah got DWill, we'd have a line-up of DWill, Hayward/Burks, SF TBD, Favors and Kanter. That team contends with the Clippers and Thunder to come out of the west. Dallas and the Lakers are on the decline.

What I meant was if we were to turn around and re-sign Deron, it would be like we'd shafted the Nets. As mentioned before in my previous posts on this thread, GMs in this league work a lot on relationship & favors basis and to turn around and re-sign Deron would have meant the end of relationship between KOC and Billy King. Why? Because the more chance Deron has in re-signing with the Jazz the less chance that Deron would consider the Nets. Out of courtesy, KOC needs to shut down that possibility (unless it's for a sign & trade with Nets).

I think the Jazz would have to offer a fairly generous sign-and-trade package to not look like jerks, but it could be done. You have to understand though, the Nets have no leverage here. Someone is going to have to do them a favor just to offer a sign-and-trade. DWill could sign with the Magic, the Mavs or the Lakers in basically 60 days, and the Nets will get nothing and be decimated.

So if the Jazz offer a package to the Nets, we look like good guys actually.

Sounds crazy to me. Favors is good, but not that good. Millsap is our most solid player, easily. The only reason to do this deal is to save face and not look like the bad guys.
