What's new

Did Exum really say that???!!!???

He'll be having the same issue with team Australia with Delly there. He's just got to suck it up and realize that developing at those off the ball spots will help him to be a better point guard when the time comes for him to be the man. I think a lot of us that play pickup basketball get how he feels though. I feel like any pickup game I am in, I should be the point guard. And when I'm not, I kind of feel disconnected from the game.

Cos u're always the shortest/smallest guy and can't shoot?

I feel the same way.

Haha....Opposite for me. I'm usually one of the taller players when playing with regular folk....so of course I become a post player by default sometimes even though I have good point guard skills. That's okay though, I've got good post game. I like trying out my version of the Dream Shake.

Prolly cuz you are a BYU fan you did not get the perverse undertones of his post.

The team desperately needs someone to stand up and say, "this is my team, give me the ball and get out of my way."

I'm ok with what Exum is doing. Now it's up to him to prove to his teammates that he is better than Burke in training camp and games. If he does that, his teammates will look for him first on outlet passes. We need this. Time to step up Exum and take control.

Absolutely. But predominantly I would prefer it that Exum handles the ball and Burke just takes a back seat just because Exum seems to already have better playmaking ability.

Problem is Han Solo (Burke) has that attitude where he needs to be THE MAN and just won't relinquish the reign to Luke Skywalker.

Tbh, I'd rather have Han on my team. He kicked *** and was cool, funny, and not afraid to speak up and lead the troops. Luke was just corny as ****.

Luke was always the diplomatic, peace-maker type. Han was more of a "kicking *** and taking names" kind of guy. I much prefer Han Solo to Luke Skywalker, but I'd still take Exum over Burke in a damn heartbeat. Exum has that X-factor. He's a long ways away from the finished product, but I truly believe that there's a diamond beneath all that rough exterior that just needs to be polished.

But you are missing the obvious fact that in a fight Luke is about 20 times more effective. Talent matters and Exum has more of it than Burke.

Before the draft I remember saying that drafting another point guard with our top pick was just going to cause problems.

I'm all for drafting BPA, but it would have been more ideal to take a different type of player. Preferably a 3.

I know we tried to move up, but maybe we should have tried harder.

This is probably going to linger around until one Is traded. It's nice to see Burke is on board, but we need Exum on board even more. Exum did look pouty at summer league. You can't really fault Exum though. He made it clear he didn't want be here because of the point guard situation. Him speaking up should be expected.

Now we spend the next year or two, or however long it takes, talking about possible trades for Burke. Something I wasn't looking forward to. I wanted to just start the season without the feeling of incompletion.

Which 3 should we have moved up for?

Wiggins - SG
Parker - PF
Embiid - C
Gordon - ?

Don't think Jazz expected Exum to be there at #5.
Nobody did.
Jazz had to take him regardless of Burke's projected talent.

such a huge stretch, IMO

Um...why?

He didn't work out here and made it clear he didn't want to because we just drafted a point guard.

Cmon. .. Wiggins and Parker are 3's...

Wiggins will be able to guard 1-3, so I'll give you that one. But I won't give you the "we should have moved up for him" argument. Wiggins is about to be the one piece that lands them Love. We couldn't have put together a better deal.

Parker is not an SF. /discussion.

This thread makes me wanna watch Star Wars.

This is the cleanest explanation ever made for the Burke & Exum situation.

Here's the whole quote. I, for one, am shocked that hotttdrammma didn't post it.

“I think I’m still comfortable at the point,” Exum said. “I still want to get the ball in my hands as much as possible. I didn’t get it a lot in my hands these last couple of games. … With Coach’s system, it’s open, but there’s been so many times where I just went away from the ball and let Trey take it.

It’s just about having the confidence and just being aggressive because there’s so many times where I’m just running up and the down the floor and when the ball comes, I’m just being passive with the ball. I think if I just start to be aggressive [it’ll be better].”
(he's probably responding to a question about his lackluster statline. The form of his answer suggests he was responding to some kind of lazy accusation about his adjustment to the NBA game.... after a couple of summer league games.... Stupid.)

Dante just needs to learn where he'll catch it, and how to take over from there. He admits this. He doesn't get to be as ball-dominant here, but he won't be playing a traditional 2, either. And, BTW, he wouldn't get to be as ball-dominant ANYWHERE in the NBA -- at least at this point in his career.

There is literally nothing to see in this thread.
