What's new

Does anyone still like this team?

Really enjoyed the podcast. I’m already excited about not being crushed by having expectations for the team to do well.

I truly hope the FO has the stones to go all in on a reset. Doesn’t OKC have a top 10 protected pick of ours? No way in hell do I let that convey. We can get a king’s ransom for Don, a nice haul for Rudy. Hell, trade Quin. He’s obviously burned out here, but teams would love to have him. We actually have a ton of guys that could net us something decent from a contender looking for a piece. No albatross contracts impossible to move. Quite the opposite really. We could help out so many teams. Dudes would flourish away from this crap. And it’d be fun to follow our guys around the league (Mitchell v Gobert is gonna be amazing to watch whenever we get it. Rudy gonna own him in the paint.) while the Jazz go fill that void in the bottom of the standings.

Acquire and play young dudes, and drown me in draft picks. I want no trace of this current team left.

This is the way. Ryan needs to turn his hat around like an adult person and make this happen.

But we’re not going to do this. We will instead go full “appease Don” mode.

BYU Ryan trying really hard to be the straw that breaks my Jazz fandom’s back… Why a Provo All-Star bro had to be the one that bought this team frustrates me to no end.

If you’re not PHX or MEM, you’re not representing the west this year.

I think there’s a lot of teams who will be blowing up this offseason so it should be interesting to watch the explosions.

If PHX isn't healthy MEM will route they a**

Best Option —> Trade both Don and Rudy and also trade most everyone over 25 on the roster (embrace the rebuild head on and maximize assets).

Next Best Option —> Trade Don for someone like SGA or Onunoby + picks, keep Rudy, but also trade most everyone over 25 on the roster and hope the new teammates get along better with Rudy (I call this the “stay competitive retooling, but replenish assets and get a younger team around Rudy” approach). This is the approach where Rudy could still get a statue and his name in the rafters.

Retool Option —> Keep both, but trade most everyone else on the roster over age 25, and hope Don and Rudy can stop being children when it comes to their relationship (the full “retool” option).

Bad Option —> run it back! Are you nuts?

Worst Option —> keep Don, but trade Rudy. As McMahon predicts, we will be awful next year if we do this and Don will be asking out and the return on a Don trade won’t be as good.

I could probably get behind any of the first three options. I will raise hell over the latter two.

"I don't take personal shots at Rudy, except when I say he lacks humility and that I can't stand the lack of ownership with him."

The best part? Gobert explicitly called himself out in the post-game interview, a fact that even LoPo acknowledged after demanding and receiving proof.

(Sidenote: This all started with Lopo blaming something on Gobert that wasn't his fault - and when called out by LogGrad, Lopo admitted he didn't actually watch the game).
Biggest hypocrite on the board

Assuming the expected playoff flameout, I would trade Don and Rudy this offseason. In the hypothetical alternate universe where we have to keep one of Don or Rudy, there’s really no debate in my mind.

Both are incredibly impactful players, but one wants to retire in Salt Lake and the other clearly will not. The one we know doesn’t want to stay in SLC forever would also fetch a muuuuch better return.

The only concern I would have about Rudy is if he is always going to have a cancerous personality and will never get along with his teammates. I honestly have no idea. My hope is that the fact that he is being asked to do waaaaayyy too much on the defensive end is contributing to his outbursts. Perhaps if you surround Rudy with a few competent defenders the conflicts with Rudy go away. I do think if you keep Rudy you really probably need to do close to a full cleanout of the rest of the roster over age 25. My suspicion is most of those relationships have soured too much.

I’m in the trade Don camp and see what next year brings even if he surprisingly wants to stay. I don’t think Rudy will fetch much value due to the size of his contract so I’d keep him and hopefully pair him with at least one person who knows how to throw a lob.

The worst people to play bball with are those who don’t play defense, turn it over a lot, and then jack up a ton of shots… now imagine that at the professional level.

Ryan’s done a lot of positive for the franchise. His biggest flaw is trying too hard to please an unplease-able star.

Can't trade mitchell just because espn guy says so. He has three years on his contract, and he won't become any less valuable if we trade him next summer instead of this one. If there is a Rudy Gobert trade that would allow us to do a quick retool around Mitchell, why not try. Unless a couple espn podcasts can turn the fanbase against Mitchell that easily, maybe we shouldn't even try. And we shouldn't bother ever having star players because the media will always say they are going to leave and the fanbase will panic. If we draft a guy who is a star again, it'll probably take five years, let's just trade him right away to maximize assets.

**** it let's just move the team.

Or you get a star and you do everything you can to maximize his time here and make it work, because you can only win with a star player in the nba and you won't get one very often. We give up Mitchell, we will be back in the post D-Will hell for five years. Just make sure you guys are ready for that.

We can bring in JLIII as an assistant coach. He is a pro's pro at tanking.

“A couple ESPN podcast guys”. These reports have been consistent, persistent, and from more than a a couple podcast guys. Tim is also pretty damn reliable in regards to the Jazz. We can all see how miserable the current team is, and yes once he demands said trade and narrows your trade partners down, it changes his value some. It’s pretty obvious this iteration of the Jazz is winding down.

Let me just be clear on something. I’m not all about trading Mitchell unless we get exact value or Mitchell says he won’t play for this team, and I damn sure don’t want to trade a ****ing top 7 player in Gobert. especially since no one would give even close to his value. Hell teams have gotten so dumb, I’m sure there’s a few teams that would value him as high as someone like Bogey. Lol

I love Rudy...he's one of my favorite Jazzmen ever, but he's definitely not a top 7 player.

I took back my stance on Rudy when he actually owned up in his interview this week. You should try some of that humility stuff you type but don't comprehend.

And my comment you referred to about the game the other night was a basketball comment. Do you understand the difference between a personal attack and a basketball critique?
Saying somebody lacks humility is a basketball comment?

Thats why I took it back. I shouldnt have said it. I don't like making comments that are personal in nature.

It was probably the only non-basketball critique I have made on a player in years. Thanks for pointing it out and making it seem like I do it often.

Aren't you a gem...
