I think keeping it open until Wednesday or agreeing in secret is smart. I think the fielding of offers actually ended weeks ago but GS still thinks they can make a play. I think we know they either don't have enough or won't give enough and had some convos with other teams and likely know what could be on the table if Lauri extends and is traded later (this season or most likely next offseason). I think we'd see some "Lauri kinda pissed" type of reports from his camp if they weren't on or very close to the same page.

So far what we've heard from Lauri's camp is: He loves Utah, his family loves Utah, he does not want to get traded mid season so he doesn't want to sign the R&E until the 7th.

The Jazz have some leverage since I'm sure Lauri wants to secure his bag and make more money now vs risk what's available in the summer.

On the other hand the Jazz have some pressure since they can't go in to the season without Lauri extended, he's more valuable to them, even if they have to overpay to get the extension done.

I guess we'll never know what GSW actually offered and Lauri may have told GSW to F off anyways, but if the deal Shams reported was on the table....I wonder how we'll look back on that. So many here were desperate to tank but also wanted the sun and the moon in order to move on from Lauri and truly tank.

Right... both parties have some motivation not to eff around and find out. So i think it should be fairly simple to iron out. One thing to watch is an Okoro offer sheet. This isn't an original idea but they could wait until tomorrow to present an offer sheet to Okoro... then they would know this week if it was matched. Might determine the structure but not total dollars of the Lauri extension.

I think Danny is trolling more or less. Just trying to poke Golden State and see if they will do what he wants. Maybe planting seeds of doubt in Curry's head about his future with the Warriors that they arent willing to push in for him.

How so?

I think the "not this week" was quoted in a weird way when he just meant it's not getting signed Tuesday.
Counterpoint: The Jazz being able to trade Lauri mid-season is no doubt Ainge’s preference. That might tip the scales toward trading him some.

Yeah but you have to spend to the cap floor by the start of the season which would diminish the ability to R&E him which would make him more expensive? I think that's the worst case scenario for Utah.

Well, what I'm wondering is if DA shouldn't have been trolling and maybe accepted the reported deal from Shams (if it was ever available). So many people here are desperate to tank and Lauri is a big roadblock to that. I wonder if at the end of next season people are still going to be whining about not tanking hard enough. Many hated the idea of moving forward with Lauri and we're going to see some version of that coming up.

Okoro would be a good explanation for a lot of things. Getting him would connect a lot of dots. It's probably more than just smoke.

What exactly do we gain by agreeing in secret or keeping it open?

Worst case scenario is they could sign some players for waaay above market to get there (or R&E John Collins).

I definitely want to see one of the few players who actually likes it here that is really good at basketball be traded. I mean who wouldn't.

If it was the completely garbage deal that was being offered, hopefully fondly and with no regrets whatsoever. Now something like an injury could make it less fondly, but it would be hard to look at it with any regrets with how terrible it was.

If you truly feel like the all the picks + Moody package was hot garbage....I don't know what to tell you lol.

For a player of Lauri's caliber? Yes, complete garbage. At the very least there needs to be a player with some sort of potential to be an all-star when one is trading a guy who already is an all-star.

I have no clue when draft picks became so overrated in the NBA.

Yeah, none of those picks would be good with Lauri there for the foreseeable future, especially if you arent poaching Kuminga or Podz.

Picks are valuable, but the Jazz already have a ton of picks that are projected to be mid tier first rounders. Having 3 more isnt that great. Having Lauri is better.

You gather intel from suitors. You also have the ability like with Okoro to say $16m first year contract value and put an offer out there. If it is matched you can give Lauri the full 24M this year. If you win the bid then you can give him whatever is left and make up the rest on the backend. Its all optionality. Its the same reason I assume they are not signing the rest of the deals we have agreed to until after Lauri happens.

You can't close it until 8/6 anyway... so why show any part of your hand?

We got ripped off trading Gobert then. I don’t care to dig up these discussions again, we’ve talked over it a million times. If you expect a Luka like trade package, so be it.

What I’m wondering is how we’re feeling about standing where we are because a couple months ago the idea of doing what we’re doing is as blasphemy. Do we hate the idea of moving forward with Lauri, or do we need an unfathomable trade package to move us from that position? Now that it looks like we’re moving forward with Lauri, do we still hate this idea?
