The key thing would be why show any cards before you have to... if there were any other items you are working on? So you negotiate what the deal would be.... and let him know a trade is still possible because lots of teams are calling but that their preference is to keep him. Then you send Keyonte with a group of trainers to workout with him for a week and send pr staff to document said workouts.

Yeah I do find it quite telling the Jazz sent some of their coaching staff and Keyonte to train with Lauri.

I mean, that is essentially what has been reported.

I think everyone knows they will come to an agreement on an extension because Utah is willing to give him all the money.

I dont see the Jazz hardballing this. Lauri is a max player who has been underpaid the last two seasons. The negotiation points will be incentives.

If they are just agreeing to give him all the money then what are the incentives (hint: they are money). I think the Jazz definitely get a discount of the additional amount that they give him this year. If that comes as unlikely incentives then whatevs.

So then no substantive conversations have happened then?

So they've had substantive talks where they understand what it takes to get a deal done but have allowed the rumors to persist. How is that meaningfully different than what I said? How is it any different than the post below:

He can't sign it until 8/6 so when I say its basically agreed to I mean they've talked in detail and have an extension in place if they don't move him. I also don't think its unrealistic to say they have even gone a smidge further down the road.

He thinks we have a plan to use all of our capspace on Lauri + some other move we have lined up (spitballed that it would be a salary dump or maybe even a trade), and then we are gonna use three exceptions (room, early bird and 2nd round) to make Eubanks, Juzang and Flip deals official.

Excepts us to pay Lauri full 42M this year and then decrease his 2025 number by some % making the 4 extension years more team friendly.
 
So, can Lauri extend today after a certain time and not be eligible or does it have to happen after midnight?
 
Today is the day that a team can be desperate and give away the bag.

Otherwise, Lauri’s team probably prefers to just wait it out 24 hours and sign the R+E tomorrow and lock him in with the Jazz for the foreseeable future.

The interesting move will be what the Jazz do AFTER they lock in Lauri. That will more or less determine what direction DA is planning to go this year.

Yep. This is what I’ve read. Lauri wants to wait past today to resign so he can’t be traded. So if someone is going to offer the bag with the kitchen sink it will be today.

I'm hoping what we have already done or more so not done is a sign that with or without Lauri this year is about getting the youngsters consistent minutes while a having a few vets to help keep them grounded. If there was a market for Clarkson I think he would have already been gone but he played his way out of that last year. The one move I could see us taking is a shot at Okoro and force the cavs to match but that is probably it other than maybe a few minimum contract guys.
 
Well, the extreme moves left would be.

1. Ingram (I like this for tanking if we force Lauri to play center primarily).
2.Steal Okoro from Cleveland using the available cap.
3. Kwahi. Get him cheap. I don't like it but it is an option.
4. Lavine (I want to like this move but the salary is high. If he can sit a year, get picks and can rehab his value, I love it.)
5. Trade Sexton to the Lakers for unprotections of the 2007 LAL.pick and an additional unprotected (I like this for tanking for the ultimate tank move).
