What's new

Donald Trump

This is what I feel Trump is doing with the Republican nomination. Just say whatever it takes to get the nomination, and then use that platform to run the actual campaign he wants to.

Yep. It's "Demagogue 101".

Trump still managed to hit it out of the park, he fended off all that stuff about the Pope and his U-turn on the Iraq war, etc.. and still came off as smart and brilliant. His idea about building that 'wall' and making the Mexicans pay for it is simply brilliant from a business savvy-ness standpoint.

He is candid and refreshingly honest about himself and his u-turns. He is surprisingly honest which is something that I didn't get from Cruz, Rubio or even Bush.

I'd be surprised he doesn't win, he ate the other candidates up like it's breakfast.

What exactly is his plan when Mexico says "**** you and your stupid ****ing toupee" and refuses to pay for the wall?

I assume Trump would put an embargo on trade and then Mexico would say, "Never mind. We'd be happy to pay for the wall." As much as I don't like Trump, I think he wins this battle easily.

No, that's when China steps in and is more than happy to take Mexico's goods and services. Or Russia.

They'd LOVE to have Americas southern neighbor in their camp instead.

I think Trump said Mexico had a huge trade deficit against the US. And the cost for the wall itself is only a small portion of that.

Trump wins in south Carolina Jeb Bush drops out... yep expected that.
If Rubio can pick up the bulk of Bush's supporters, as many pundits seem to think possible, Trump will suddenly have a real rival. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. I myself am now in the "anyone but trump or cruz" camp for the Republicans.

Yeah, we only do billions of dollars of trade with Mexico. That would be a genius strategy there. Plus I think NAFTA is actually still a thing.

I don't have a horse in this race, I'm just sorta watching this from afar.

The south Carolina town hall interviews with Anderson popped up on CNN last week (no NBA games on) so that was when I was able to watch all 6 GOP candidates all at the same time for the first time. And from that I've gotta say Trump just has that 'winning' attitude about him. The way he deflected all that Pope stuff like it was nothing as well as all the U-turns he had done over the years, all that stuff should have hurt him, but I watched as they all bounced off of him like he's teflon.

It was clear to me Cruz, Rubio and Bush all tried to impress while Trump was just being himself and I think that was the difference. He didn't need to put on an act, he is who he is, take it or leave it. If I were an undecided impartial voter, I think I would have been very impressed by his candid style. Add to that the fact that he doesn't smoke or drink, and that he only sleeps 3-4 hours a day, I mean that's just the kind of stuff that would impress and potentially sway any undecided voter.

President Trump and his merry band coming to town:

The Republican National Committee announced it will be holding a presidential debate in Salt Lake City in March.

The debate, which will be held on March 21 in Salt Lake City, was decided upon by the RNC's Debate Committee after the committee met on Saturday and decided another debate would be beneficial to the selection process. The March debate will be the first presidential debate the state of Utah has hosted.

The sponsor for the debate has not been decided at this time, nor has information about whether the general public will be allowed to attend the debate. However, Evans said the state party will announce soon how its allocation of tickets to the debate will be distributed.

I think I want to go.

I realize you don't count because you can't vote here, but the fact that there are people that actually think like this is terrifying. No wonder we keep on electing idiots.

You're not going to sell the same services and products to China or Russia at the same prices you get in the US. Not even close. Export to richer countries, import from poorer countries. That's the trade game played well. And you try to do that with as much of your capacity as you can. Mexico is not poor relative to China or Russia per capita. The math doesn't work. Plus, I hear that just being able to load up trucks and send them up the highway to a much more prosperous country is a pretty sweet thing when it comes to trade. You're going to trade that to ship stuff across the world for much less money? Olé.....Olé......Olé......

LOL. .. to be clear I don't decide my vote on those things. What I meant was these are the little things people think about when they are deciding between candidates. It doesn't only come down to who's most experienced or capable. Sorry I thought that was clear from my post.

Somehow you find the things about him endearing that I find abhorrent.

So yeah, he's confident...in his stupidity.

He says what he thinks...which is inaccurate, offensive and misinformed.

He's got that tough guy thing going, except that he isn't a tough guy, not in anyway that I'm buying into. He's a self-important little twerp. I look at him and I see pathetic. I see someone who is delusional about who they are and how the rest of the world sees them.

I find his personality to be so incredibly irritating that I can't hardly watch the guy without feeling uneasy, damn near nauseous.

Good on him that he only sleeps four hours a night. I don't have any idea why that would be impressive. I have a feeling it contributes to the delusional way he sees the world.

And yet he's in the lead.. which I think speaks more about the society as a whole than anything else... lol
