What's new

Donovan Mitchell unlikely to ask for trade per ESPN’s Brian Windhorst

I think this means the Jazz met with Donovan and told him that the trade offers from Miami and NYK aren't good enough. Plus the BRK deal didn't come together. I don't think Donovan wants to get traded to some random team. Hence, both sides are standing pat for now.

There are levels to this. Donovan may prefer to be traded, but he isn't forcing the issue with some kind of ultimatum. Donovan just doesn't have any leverage right now.

The other thing is that the Jazz could still abruptly trade Donovan, and because he hasn't publicly demanded a trade, Donovan doesn't look like the bad guy.

Donovan/Butler
Beverley/Clarkson/NAW
Bogdanovic/Bolmaro
Vanderbilt/Gay
Ayton/Kessler/Azubuike

Move either Conley or Beasley in the deal for Ayton and then that leaves the other one to upgrade one of these positions or hell come off the bench.

Conley-Beverley
Don-Clarkson
Bogey-Beasley
Vanderbilt-Gay
Poeltl

There is way too much talent on this roster not to win a lot of games. Getting Poeltl would be dumb as ****.
I agree. Trading for Poeltl is a very bad idea. We are already going to have 3 center options who can't shoot on our roster (Vanderbilt, Kessler and Dok). We need a center option who can spread the floor. I feel like we have been saying that for a long time now.

I think I’m fully out on Ayton.

For once, I’d like to see the Jazz fill the center position with young or minimum salary guys and focus their assets and cap allocation on getting some wings.

Trading draft capital for a Center about to sign his rookie max contract Greek like a very DL move.

If Ayton signs an offer sheet, the Suns will have to match it and trade him at the deadline. So that sets Ayton's involvement in any trades back 6 months.

I’m actually starting to think we should do a Miami package. I really want Herro. I’m not saying they’re similar players at all but the situation could be similar to OKC trading Harden.

You know what, I've changed my stance too. Ayton is more risk than reward. For all we know, Vanderbilt, Kessler plus an affordable true stretch 5 is all we need at center.

If we’re tanking that is all we need.

I don’t know. Maybe Don is excited to have the system built around him and playing for a new coach and wants to see how well it goes. Or perhaps he does like being here. And wants to win here and bring a championship to Utah. Maybe just maybe

I think you’re vastly underrating the talent on that team.
As it stands, that team is not beating Phoenix, Memphis, GS, Dallas, Denver, the Clips, nor Minnesota. I give a slight edge to New Orleans. Assuming the Kings and Blazers are improved, that's a 50-50 shot. I don't discount the Lakers either, assuming a Russ trade to fix their PG deficiencies.

That said, given I'm all for a tank, let's go.

Yeah, I see the center position as similar to running backs in the NFL. Unless you're getting a superstar center, you're better off going cheap. The market for centers in the modern NBA lets practically any team get good production from the center position for cheap. Hell, look what the Jazz got from Whiteside last year.

Lol. Yep. Maybe, just maybe.

I'm so incredibly grateful to have guys like you hanging out in the shadows with a positive demeanor. You should post more often.

This is a really poor assumption. Anything can happen over 82 games. Dallas lost Brunson and gained nothing. Chris Paul is another year older. We have no idea how the Wolves are gonna go, especially after losing tough leadership like Bev and Vandy.

Even mentioning the Kings is laughable.

We have a fringe Hall of Fame pg who could play like he did two years ago for all we know. A top 25 player in Mitchell. A 18-20ppg scorer in Bogey who’s a great shooter. A by all accounts really
good defender in Vandy who is a great glue guy. A recent 6th man of the year off our bench. Two other players in Beasley and Bev who have started a lot of games in this league. If Poeltl plays average on defense, this could be a 48-51 win team. Especially since they could play with a chip on their shoulder.

Virtually 90% of this board laughed at the Suns for signing Chris Paul. They now have 115 wins the last two seasons and a Finals appearance. Anything is possible.

Bruh, we lost a Mavericks without Doncic for half their games. Since then, we've gotten, maybe, slight upgrades to our perimeter D and a hell of a lot worse around the rim and that line up isn't exactly screaming "Gobert who?" You are drastically over estimating what the listed line up can do. We'd be boat raced out of the play in, at best.

You’re looking at a six game series as a tell all of our potential. Bad move. We won a ton of games two years ago. A good amount last year despite being a trainwreck chemistry-wise. And that chemistry or lack thereof was evident in the Mavs series.

That could be better this year. Maybe vastly better. Just agree to disagree with you here.
