I don’t think anyone is disputing a deal from the Knicks of Barrett plus all of their picks and pick swaps isn’t better I don’t think that is on the table or else we likely would have taken it already.
 
How much better and how much more is Mitchell worth than Murray?

Is he an extra first and two first round pick swaps better? Is he that plus Herro better?

Huh? So if we don't trade them Donovan they will be a lotto team in 2025 and 2026 which is what would have to happen for them to get a lotto pick currently.

If they amend protections and make it unprotected and Miami is a lotto team in 2025 they get a lotto pick... it is likely a pick in the 20s as of right now whether they do the Donovan trade or not. It has less upside though.

I know this is a crazy concept but removing protections increases risk of loss... so OKC becomes the beneficiary of the removal of those protections. They also get cash or a second rounder to do so (btw if you tank you can collect infinity second round picks so I'm not worried about which teams have second rounders).

OK, so I did miscalculate there. I’ll apologize for that one. I still don’t believe it’s the same situation as OKC previously amending the protections. And as I’ve said before, I still don’t think 2023/2027/2029 is a good enough deal to accept right now. I’d feel very confident in getting a better offer in the future.
 
Just so everyone is clear... the Heat owe a 2025 lotto protected pick to OKC... it would be unprotected in 2026 if it falls in the protections. They could easily change those protections to make it unprotected in 2025 by working with OKC. OR they could send us picks and swaps with language assuming that pick has been conveyed. Since most people assume that pick would be in the 20s that is an alternative deal structure but it adds risk on our end.

If you put garbage around him then it won't make him happy or look good. Our record will be rough... I'm not sure its a great situation to get cooperation from your star that you are "building around".

Might put up the monsterest stats though. I dont really care about his cooperation. I say trade him to the team that offers us the best package regardless of how don feels about it.

I mean me too... but if he half asses it because he has garbage players around him it won't help. I am pro-trade him before the season. In the scenario I was laying out he was still on the roster. If he's on the roster I just don't think you can sell everything off and genuinely tell suitors "we are building around Donovan". If he gets pissy then it puts pressure on us to do something. He's much more likely to get pissy on a ****** roster.

I think everyone feels that way. The cooperation in the post HH said wasn’t about cooperation with a trade it was cooperation with a rebuild. If we suck don’t you think he’s going to want out eventually?

Exactly. He already wants out imo regardless of who we get around him. Get crap players around him for the rebuild (and tank) and trade him next year. I dont see why we have to get good players around him and then lose him when he leaves anyways.

wouldn't that be a good thing? let's make it happen sooner than later so we can get a top 4 pick next year in a strong, top heavy draft.

I mean…we just did this with Gobert and you said that wasn’t fair….but regardless, Mitchell is a lot better and a lot more valuable.

To use the other side of this argument…this MIA deal is like getting 80 cents on the dollar. Those are HH’s words not mine. My question is….why are we taking 80%? Are we so scared that we’re going to get 75% that we lock ourselves into 80%? That’s not how I would do things. I would ask for 120%, and if you get to close to 100% even value that’s when we start thinking about taking the deal. You aim to win deals, not try to mitigate downside and settle for 80%.
