Donovan.....side-steps again

He ever donated a dollar in Utah?---Not Adidas, not Body Armor for an image play......Donovan. I've seen Rudy do it on multiple multiple occasions.
He payed for Izzy Tichenor's funeral. The girl who died by suicide connected to bullying and racism in her Davis County school.

Ummm not really... normally when asked a basic question like that players break down where their happiness comes from by percentages.... some even use pie charts. It is clear that 110% of his happiness comes from being on a winning team and -10% comes from that team being in Utah... add that up and there is a 100% chance he has already requested a trade.
I see you've taken the same statistics class that I have. The regression analysis of the data clearly shows that with 90% confidence, DM requesting a trade is between 100% and 100%, and this is not an outlier.

Don’t give up. If you were on JazzFanz in 2008 I was one of the conservative minions making all the same points that we hear over and over again. Life experience and the perspective of others changed me. There is hope in Utah, it’s just going to be a slow process.
"Hope in Utah". While there's plenty I'd like to see change about the state, there's plenty right with the state as well, and this "hope for these poor dumb souls" attitude isn't helpful, and doesn't forward any positive conversation. Donovan's whole section in the podcast talking about how receptive anyone has been ignores support he has been shown, and intentionally or not makes him sound like an arrogant POS who thinks he knows everything, is right on everything, and you better not disagree with him on anything whatsoever or you're dumb and not receptive. Good luck with that. Donovan did have a chance to make a difference here in regards to those things, he quickly pissed that away by acting like a spoiled child at every disagreement someone had with him. He acts like Stuart Adams, just the opposite side of the political coin.

That’s pretty cool of him. The dude obviously cares about the causes he cares about and that’s admirable.

Honestly, I got the sense from that interview that he is genuinely happy with his current team situation and that he has a professional relationship with Rudy that works (but that isn’t perfect).

I honestly also got the impression he would probably rather not be in Utah for his next contract unless we are winning titles by then.

That’s all okay and doesn’t make the guy a bad person.

Just enjoy the guy while he is here. He likely isn't here forever. NBA really doesn't work that way. He's as good and genuine a person as you can get in an NBA star. Have met him briefly a number of times and he couldn't be more cool and selfless with the time and attention he gives to young fans. Most of the NBA guys, especially stars, duck fans after games and during warm ups. I get it... it has to be annoying. I've caught Donovan in road games responding to fans trying to get his attention from like the mid section and watched while they sent shoes down to him for him to sign. He always stops in the tunnels and a few times has waived off overly vigilant ushers.

Him and Rudy don't always see eye to eye, he is trying to be a voice for social change, he isn't a perfect basketball player... but I truly believe the guy is genuine in everything he's doing. Rudy called him out in the media... right or wrong... he responded with his play. I get why people think he is cheesy but those brief experiences when the cameras aren't rolling have led me to believe the guy is who he projects to be. I think when the time comes for a parting of ways he will be direct with the organization and that is all you can ask for. So let's chill and just enjoy him. Have fun.

He does a lot of this stuff.. as well as the showing up at parties on the 4th or random basketball games. He just totally gets it and I don't believe its for show at all. At summer league he was sitting next to Dame front row. Usher was stone walling every kid from talking with them. Dame was rejecting every kid that came up to him. Donovan caught a glimpse of a kid trying to get his attention... called off the usher and proceeded to sign stuff for like 30 minutes. Could tell Dame was annoyed for opening up the flood gates... he signed some stuff and bailed out.

We also have to remember how young these guys are... good hell they are so much more mature than I was at that age. He's a great dude to root for... don't care if he leaves in a few years... will always be a fan.

Yea, now it's all liberal minions making all the same points that we hear over and over again. Don't give up. Bob was right.
I shouldn’t have used the word minion. I’m sorry about that (I’m going to change it.) The thing that upsets me the most is how we shoot each other down so quickly.

And oneye is right that Donovan hasn’t been all that productive in his conversation. There is a lot right about Utah. A lot! And most fail to recognize it. If he would pause and recognize it, maybe people would listen to him. If he would listen, maybe others would listen to him.

(The problem is the definition of the word racism has changed. I think they should have created a new word instead of changing the definition. Utah is still operating off the old definition, which they’ve done a decent job of rooting out. It still exists to a small degree, but it’s mostly looked down on in Utah and this should be acknowledged. There are still inequalities that need to be addressed, but instead of having productive conversations about how to address them the left calls the right racists and the right, who is operating off the old definition, gets defensive and pissed off and shuts down and ignores the problem.)

I feel Donovan is in an unique place (one of the only black kids in his high school and get drafted by Utah) to bridge that gap and he hasn’t stepped up. I think it’s amazing that he’s actively involved though.

He's young......so obviously the immaturity is there and this is a lot to expect, but this is perhaps one of the most frustrating things that I've watched with him. I'm being real here not trolling or being inflammatory. He's condescending when he's speaking on these issues, not engaging. Ryan Smith has done more for Utah on race relations than Donovan Mitchell, because he tries to find definitive and positive ways to make change, while also not reacting like a child when he inevitably gets some pushback on his very noble efforts. Donovan sends out snarky, condescending tweets and comments. He had so much rep built up and instead of making an actual difference with it, he pissed it away by acting arrogant, childish, and over-reactionary (like he always does) when he doesn't get his way, or things aren't 100% in line with him. I actually think he's been bad for Utah in regards to those social issues, he's been really negative for 2 years, and essentially just disowned the fan-base over some rude comments on his social medias which by the way, were on every players social media in every market when they posted on these issues. When someone says they can agree that black lives absolutely matter, but the organization is a farce, that doesn't make them racist and frankly they've been proven right by some of the things uncovered about that organization. I don't support things like CRT being banned at all and am glad that Ryan Smith behind closed doors did all he could to make sure it didn't happen. I know, Donovan got some headlines because he reacted on Twitter, but Donovan has never spoken to a law maker here or done anything of substance for actual change. I've spoken to lawmakers, they've reached out, he has not engaged in that process at all, he just tweets on twitter. And with that I understand, if you can tweet but you can't actually engage you lose a lot of credibility and you come off as an elite, out of touch, "woke"(yes I know over-used term), athlete who grew up in an upper class white neighborhood, who went to one of the most expensive private schools in the nation. Donovan hasn't approached the conversation in a productive manner at all, he hasn't engaged in a meaningful way at all--it takes more than Twitter--and like I said, the fact he pissed away his credibility like he did to make substantive change in the state is probably his most disappointing thing. And don't get me wrong, I've been involved in politics, I know how frustrating it can be, you rarely get what you want quite honestly, but you can't act like a child and throw fits when that happens.

Just listened to more of the interview. oneye, you do everyone a disservice here. Donovan talked about being in Utah positively, comparing it to Louisville, a place nobody questions if he loves. He says it reminds him of that, smaller place, passionate about ball, especially because there aren't other local pro sports aside from soccer. Talked about the energy around the Jazz, He neither said it's the greatest place on earth nor implied he can't wait to leave. For your own mental well-being, and I say this sincerely, not as an insult, you gotta let it go.

Amen to this. My off-the-radar interactions with him have been invariably positive, and I've met plenty of famous people that gave off a different fake vibe (and I don't begrudge them for that!).

Couldn't disagree with you more strongly. The Jazz Fans Against Racism project was directly inspired by Donovan and I've paid close attention to how he talks about things publicly. He picks and chooses his spots. He doesn't always try to frame it to appease white people (interestingly, since some people say he's a phony who is just trying to do good PR). He's also inspired a bunch of young people in this state, and even some older folks, to think in new ways, to be open to different voices. I've seen it repeatedly myself. Your condescending and paternalistic description of his efforts is gross and incomplete. Given your other participation in this thread I'm not convinced you're even open to talking about it beyond what you already think, though.

Right! There are zero guys that I get upset about when they blow the kids off... they are at work or going about their day and it could be super annoying. Its just amazing that not once when I have taken my kids or my nieces or nephews to a game and they want an autograph that he has never disappointed. Its not just them getting a signature... he will stop and talk or high five or smile... he knows it is making that kids day/week/month.

Believe it or not there are actual good people out there that do good things to help others feel good and bring good things to their community. I'm beyond impressed with him... sometimes I forget so I appreciate all those that are overly critical and help me remember :)

I enjoy watching Don play basketball. I enjoy watching Rudy play basketball. And Royce, Bogey, Conley, JC and all the rest of the jazz. When they leave or are traded I'll enjoy watching whoever takes their place. I subscribe to watch them play basketball for entertainment. What they do in their personal lives is up to them and I hope it brings them as much joy as they often bring me. I see no reason to get too invested in their personal lives. It will never affect me or my happiness.

What was the trigger for one eye? He obviously obsessively loved Mitchell and idolized him. We've all seen his creepy posts and then all of a sudden hated him. I think it was one of two things. When Mitchell took a BLM stance or when the COVID stuff happened with the team/Gobert. So since one eye is too fake to admit things. Is he racist or anti vaccine? My guess is both. The clues are adding up. It's kinda a sad to watch a kid on this message board grow up into this.

I was going to pull up some of his older teenybopper threads he used to start, so I ran a search on threads started by him that mention Donovan in the title.

Holy ****! He’s posted 820 threads that mention Donovan in the title. That’s not counting any that refer to him by anything else in the title. 820!

must be secret admirer?

Are we really that worried about the Donovan situation?

He's in year one of a 4 year deal (obviously he'll opt out if he keeps playing at this level and stays healthy), and if God forbid he does ask for a trade, we'll get an absolute haul back.

He and Rudy are fine (not best friends, but fine). Everyone take a deep breath and just enjoy the squad.

I agree that people liked him enough to hear him out, but no, sorry he has approached it like a whiney, child. I’ve seen it repeatedly myself.

Well considering I’m fully vaccinated and boosted I don’t think it’s that, maybe, the facts don’t seem to be pointing that direction….but maybe professor. And considering plenty of my posts, I’m obviously not anti-BLM stance but absolutely anti-that organization(oh no am I racist now). Great work detective.
