What's new

Enes Kanter is an underrated athlete!

Boozer has been on
2 all NBA teams (rookie 2nd and NBA 2nd)
2 all star teams
2 USA Olympic teams (1 gold, 1 bronze)

If, like you say, kanter can reach boozers production while being more present defensively, how is than anything similar to just a role player?

Indeed, I'll take 20 and 10 with better defense.

Rep'd

I really don't think people understand how close Boozer and Big Al are to making the next step. If they would ever just D guys up, we'd be having a completely different conversation.

If Enes ever comes close to the Offensive production of Al or Booze, I will take that all day long considering his motor and strength.

Enes Kanter has the potential of being a taller version of Kevin Love with good defense.

Kevin Love was what 3rd or 4th in MVP voting last year?
+1
as far as I am concerned, there is a similarity, which one cannot miss; namely "rebounding prowess".
I was laughing at mock drafts and those pundit opinions, likening Kanter to Al Horford. Kanter is "like" Love, I used to say all the time.
and he is.
similar however does not mean "the same".

similarity ends with elite rebounding and a chubby-looking bulk.
Kevin Love is a finesse player; he has great court vision and nice passes.
Kanter has none of these, but he is a bigger and tougher bully!

I seriously don't think he is being underrated.
He is what he is.
Lots of flaws to be corrected especially in offense
good PR work
nose for rebounds
bulk.
that is about it!
I even think he is a "minor" bust for his draft position!

He also has a very smooth jumper in my opinion. He just needs to show more confidence in it.

Kevin Love has a much higher basketball IQ though along with being better at everything. Until Kanter shows he can play at a 20 and 10 level, I feel kind of wrong comparing him to a guy averaging 26 and 13.

Kanter's potential sure is a mystery right now. If I had to bet I would say he most likely going to be worth a top 5 pick.

The best thing about him is he plays hard. We all know we dont want another Boozer or Al on this team. I think we can hang our hats on that and expect something positive out of him. How high he goes is the question.

You are also talking about the same site that projected Stevenson to be Jordan, and Morrison to be Bird. I don't think Aran Smith puts nearly as much research into the players as Givony.

comps aren't the same as projections, but OK. my point is simply that kanter was sold as an athletic, agile, strong big man. that analysis came drom DX, too, where givony said, "he's a mobile player with solid agility who can get up and down the floor fairly well and displays good body control around the basket." he mentions in several archived pieces i just looked up that kanter is not the "explosive" kind of athlete but that he "flashes some explosiveness at times" and "uses his body as well as any player you'll see."

humorously enough, since both of these names have come up in this thread, givony called his worst case scenario araujo and his best case kevin love.

I guess Araujo covers the extremely developed frame with zero development scenario.

guess so. personally, i think araujo is too pessimistic a worst-case scenario. on the other hand, kevin love is probably way too high a ceiling.

Agreed. If he was as bad as Hafa I would be shocked. That guy was terrible.

Both comps just seem based off of his physical and athletic traits though, not that I can blame him, there wasn't much known about Kanter at the time.

I wonder what Love's inflated numbers would be if he played for a playoff team.

I agree.

So are you too much of a big shot these days to look up and wave sometime? Just too busy standing there in the tunnel checking out Jazz dancers instead of the game.

haha, where are your seats these days? i honestly haven't noticed you, but then i'm usually pretty preoccupied when i'm down there.

Same as always. On the isle just to the right of where Brian Smith sits and back a couple rows. Next year i'll just start standing up and scream Nerd until you acknowledge me.

To put it back on topic I bit, I think Kanter will be a little better than Kendrick Perkins type player.

Kanter a lil better Perkins? what is the connection of each? As being 8 years younger than Perkins, Kanter is already better rebounder, shooter, post up player. Perkins is just an intelligent player knows how to use his body on defense, that's all. You too pessimistic.

Forget the athletics. Hollinger said it best in one of his chats. Kanter "should" have a pick and pop game. He's not just a bull center. His improvement has far less to do with the Ivan Drago Super Athlete Program, and much more to do with developing his basketball skills. The nice thing is there is plenty still untapped. The negative thing is he's so young we really have no idea what will happen when he tries to expand his game.

The upside is there because he's a good shot. If he's strong, has a great motor, great 'tude, and can hit a shot out to 20' .. then he has a bright upside. No guarantee, but a great chance.
