They are always talking about Favors and Kanter not able to play with each other because they can not guard stretch 4 players. But they forget that most of stretch 4 players also will have a hard time guarding one of them in the paint.
That only works if a player knows how to use their size to their advantage. That basically comes down to overpowering a player (usually in the post), or just shooting over the top of someone (which generally requires an exceptional shooter to truly exploit a size mismatch. I have yet to see Favors do either [although he has improved offensively, I don't really see him overpowering opponents]). That's why small-ball works as much as it does; very few teams have two bigs that can play together (spacing, passing) and can exploit a size mismatch MORE than the other team can exploit the speed/spacing advantage.
Marvin Williams also was a miss-match gainst Blake with his 3 point shot, but it did not work and Marvin was not even nearly able to guard Griffin. So we had to change the line up and go BIG with Kanter.
That's not really much of a mismatch for Marv. If there's an advantage for the Jazz, it's the spacing, but they are undoubtedly losing the individual matchup UNLESS Marv is a threat as a ballhandler. Additionally, the spacing Marv provides doesn't really mean much considering that the Clippers have survived defensively without any help defense from Blake to begin with.
