Ersan Ilyasova to sign with Jazz per Jordan Schultz

Don't see him playing over Niang. I seriously doubt he gets any rotation minutes unless we have an injury.

I'm not so sure, when you look at his stats from last season - he beats Niang in most every category including rebounds, steals and blocks. I think he takes some of Niang's minutes, some of Favors' minutes and possibly some of Ingles' minutes at the three. I admit I was a little skeptical particularly with talk of a forged birth certificate some years back. But if you look at his stats year to year, they've remained consistent and last season was particularly strong. I'll bet he gets over 13 minutes a game come playoff time if he stays healthy.

Ingles minutes????? Nah man. Niang for sure... Favs is a maybe but Tony Jones and others were pretty adamant that he’s not playing the 5 in our system.

Five? Three don't you mean? Tony Jones ain't the coach, against a smaller or more crafty big I can see him coming in and giving us that stretch 5 look, but we'll have to see. This guy is really smooth and was an athletic 6'9". I was concerned about his age because I'd read years ago that there was speculation that his birth certificate had been altered. Like you, I was hoping for someone a little younger, but all things considered, this is a good pickup IMO.

I think you guys are really underestimating how sneaky and cerebral of a move this is from DL. Zanik worked for Milwaukee and has all the inside info. We have to sign someone by Wednesday to keep with league rules. However, we're also currently over the tax. DL is bringing in a guy who has faked his identity. We will keep Ilyasova through the regular season. DL will then be able to, with the help of Zanik, prove Ilyasova's faked birth certificate and faked identity, which will nullify the contract. This move will remove his salary from our payroll, but more importantly, this will do so retroactively for the full year of paying that 13th spot, and since we also had Shaq signed to this, the amount removed from our salary cap will allow us to narrowly duck the tax.

In the meantime, we get Ilyasova's services.

Some people are really underestimating how hard it is to crack into Quins rotation.

Do we remember when the Clippers iso'd Bogie 6 plays in a row in overtime using Tobias Harris? I don't think that happens with a healthy Ersan taking those minutes. Also, Ersan shoots around 4% worse from the 3 point line vs. Bogie. It's a big of a drop but not when we can improve the defense. This is a playoff move and in my mind it's well worth the gamble.

Besides, our biggest weakness is finding who we will use to guard the 6'9" - 7'1" point forwards/small forwards. I am talking about the Kevin Durant, Tobias Harris, Anthony Davis, Brandon Ingram, Michael Porter Jrs of the league. Would you rather Niang it? Or HerecomesErsan?

It wasn’t hard for Clarkson, a guy that had been riding the pine in Cleveland and look at him now! Ilyosova is much more of a proven commodity. And no real ?s like there were for Green and Mudiay, I mean aside from his real age maybe:)

I'm not sure how many people have actually watched Ersan... and/or the Jazz. Some of these takes are pretty wild.

JC wasn't riding the pine in Cleveland. Here is a dirty little secret... he had changed his shot profile before coming here and it had some people intrigued. He had already kinda made the turn. This year he has done even better on both ends of the court.

Ready for another secret. JC was acquired in part because he had an expiring deal... DL himself said they were surprised how well it worked.

Ersan is fine... Jonas is a good comp for what he might bring. He doesn't bring something materially different than what Niang does imo. Quin is partial to vets and who knows what JZ promised Ersan... so I'm worried he jumps the line in front of more intriguing options.

I remember last year when we signed Ed Davis some speculated he would play PF next to Gobert
Yeah... some are just making him out to be some athlete in his prime that will guard wings... he's pretty creaky on defense and will likely get cooked more in iso than Niang does. He has a knack for taking charges so likely a better help defender... although Niang is always in the right place. He doesn't always bother the offensive player but he's in the right place.

Our biggest hole is we need a wing other than Royce that can effectively guard these bigger wings. Royce only has 6 fouls... As long as we are still out there looking for the wing help we need then signing Ersan is fine by me... I have my doubts the FO sees it the same way.

The best I got is that Ilyasova would be the only player that theoretically could both hit the 3 and do some bigman stuff believably. Not sure that would put him in the rotation. The thing that concerns me is that this would likely preclude another signing.
