Ersan Ilyasova to sign with Jazz per Jordan Schultz

I actually enjoyed watching this. It is apparent that Ersan understands defensive positioning, and is long, even if he isn't top shelf athletically:

I really like that it wasn't just the no-names who he's getting the benefit of the doubt against, but also some big names:

Kahwi, 3 times
Harden, twice
Jimmy Butler,
Hayward
PG
among others

Jordan Clarkson. . .

Were gonna be 11 deep once we sign OPJ

I love that he takes charges - it's statistically much better defense than a blocked shot. Here's why:

When you take a charge:
* The other player gets a foul - when you block a shot that is not so.
* Your team gets possession of the ball - when you block a shot that is not always the case.
* If they are in the penalty, you're team gets free throws and the ball back - not so with a block

Ersan makes the best team in the NBA 7% better on both offense and defense.

I'm with you on this one. How are your offerings going to get him released and somehow prefer us over the Nets?

(Oh, and don't forget some offerings to get him healthy ... unless he ends up with the Nets or Lakers or Nuggets or Blazers, etc.)

The list is as follows:

1. He will be released.
2. As per HH, we have a bit more money to offer as exceptions.
3. DL was interested in this guy before. DL’s specialty is tunnel vision and I bet OPJ had a big game against Baylor.
4. This is our year.

But more importantly, we’re offering up sacrifices. I’ve got an AK Jersey (don’t ask... I don’t buy jerseys and it’s the only one I have [I didn’t buy it]) that I may burn as an offering.

I'm a little nervous that we won't be able to get him... Nic Batum was apparently recruited pretty hard by Rudy and not even the French connection was enough to keep him away from a glamour market. Everyone has different priorities obviously.

Where'd you hear this? If we can't get him, we can't get him. But look, originally him getting bought out made no sense. But then my thread started working its magic. It's time for people to get serious about making offerings.

I'd say our biggest sell is that we're the best team in the league, and what we need is a wing defender. He could be that guy for us on a championship team, rather than a guy on other teams.

I'm not trying to put a spin on things. But you look at us in the off-season. We got beat in the first round. LAC is a perceived as a premier team. A lot of landscape is different. Obviously LAC are starting Batum.

I don't believe the third point is true...but I overall agree.

watching highlights I now believe that Ily never misses.

But seriously, he can hit a three in transition, which is a nice fit.

And you guys think he's in the rotation are nuts. He's a 10th man insurance policy.

I mean he's going to get a lot better quality shots here than he did with the Bucks. He seems smart enough to run the stuff on offense and defense too. We really weren't getting that from the deep bench. He should allow us to "manage" Bojan if we need to, as well.

Kyle Korver had slightly better on/off defensive splits on the same team last year. Calm down. He's fine but he's shared the floor with Giannis, Lopez, Embiid which certainly helps those numbers.
He's never played with gobert though and since gobert is better defensively than Giannis and embiid then ersan + Rudy equal championship

Ilya brings so many pieces he will fit and contribute for us. Niang is a one trick pony which can either be off or on ...
Agreed! This is just sooo confusing. I thought folks would be ecstatic with a more athletic backup 4 coming in. Don't get me wrong, I love Niang, he gives everything he's got, he's an outstanding shooter and I believe he's going to have one hell of a broadcasting career some day. But the guy's a Clydesdale -built for comfort not for speed. Ilyasova is a Thoroughbred, and has proven he can mix it up with anybody anytime..... and all that experience to go with it. Not sure if he can cover AD (who can) but he won't make stupid mistakes and he's not afraid to take a charge!

I don't think he'll play ahead of Niang. But I could be wrong. Currently Niang is putting up our team best defensive rating, just slightly ahead of Gobert $2 and Conley #3. He's been very solid this year. I do like the signing though, he's a solid player who is there if we have injuries.

It’s crazy to think Quin would play a vet over less proven players. I feel like some of y’all haven’t been around much the last 5-6 years.
