I went to German Bilingual school for 12 years. Nearly every single one of my close friends is German, and they are all serious fans of the team. Its downright nauseating. I was born in Germany as well, but I will never ever root for them. I respect them as a team, but that is it. Plus, they broke my heart when they beat Turkey in 08 (Turkey is always my underdog team that I root for; especially after 08)

Portugal and Germany both played poorly, but Portugal does not stand a single chance in this tourney. They don't seem to have tho teamwork mojo going on. Id be floored if they got past the round of 16. Netherlands is now exposed as well; honestly, if Germany beats the Netherlands, and Denmark ties Portugal, then Denmark and Germany will advance. How crazy would that be!! Im pulling for the Danish to pull another upset off here.

Wow, nice, I like Germany, the country, but for the German NT, there is a growing hate inside of me.

I hope Turkey will be in 14 World Cup, some times world cup could be easier than the Euros, our new team looks solid as of now. Two weeks ago they beat Portugal 3-1, the game wasn't that good but the potential is there. So, good, keep rooting for us :)

Have you watched Russians, are they good? I missed their game, 4-1 over Chzech is impressive.

Good boy, Ned. Zizou is what got me into Soccer. I still remember watching the '98 Final with my parents (they were big on Suker and the Croats) and how amazing he was, even though I was only 5 at the time. Euro 2000 was icing on the cake, and then I followed Zizou throughout his career, up until 2006. He is easily my favourite soccer player I have ever had the privilege of watching.

Haha that whomps, my best friend is a huge Arsenal fan as well. He was ticked with Robbies performance today.
France has an amazing attacking half. Malouda, Benzema, Ribery, Nasri. Everything is covered in that attacking formation; probably the most intimidating attack-line in all of Europe. If the defense gets in sync, and we get decent wingage from Sagna and Evra, then the sky is the limit. Mexes needs to be thrown on the bench.

Yeah Zinedine is actually my idol, the only thing that I never liked about him when he joined Real Madrid, other than that he is miles ahead of Pele and Maradona, at least to me. I still have his poster in my room and during the '10 World Cup I even bought French kit with his name on it even that he stopped playing professionally back in 2006 thanks to c*nt Materazzi. On top of that he was born on the same day & month as me. :P

@ Enes CanTear You Apart
Salutes to you as well brother.

Denmark fan here since 1984. Michael Laudrup to me is the best player I ever saw to play the game. Yes I know there was Pele, Kruiff and others but I had no chance to follow them live.... while Laudrup was easily the most exciting player to watch in 90's.

Not surprised at all that Denmark beat Netherlands, team work in football has better chances to beat individual stars then in basketball, just ask Greece in 2004:).

Another bad luck/clumsiness game from Netherlands, now they have to beat Germany. I'm OK Denmark winning but sad about the Oranges once again.

@AKMVP, my father was a fan of Laudrup along with Van Basten, that clip you posted is impressive.

But I hope you're joking about Euro 2004. That was the worst championship of the tournament history. Don't think I'm knocking down greece cause I'm turkish(I praise greek basketball).

Greece was last but one for the shots per game even though they were the team which played most mins, fifth from the end for the shots on the target, fifth from the end for the corners, again last but one for the possession(only ahead of Latvia), only four shots in the final with just one corner and one shot on the target(obviously the goal).

They did only one thing during the all tourney and it was just killing the game of football. The trophy wasn't only due to their defence, it was due to other teams' ineptitudes, especially the Portugal and Chzech Republic. Overall, I admit though, it was a great team work to kill the game. Even a 12 years old football fan(me :)) could see that, those days, on that tournament.

20 mins to go for France-England game to start. France have an exciting squad and England is my first team to root in this tourney. This should be a great game.

Ever since playing FIFA a couple years ago I really started getting into soccer...I can't wait for the world cup in 2014. Anyone planning on going to Brazil for that? I really think I might go

Hope you have a large bank account.

It costs around 2 grand round trip to fly to Brazil right now. I'm guessing it's going to be at least 3 by the time the world cup begins. Not to mention most flights will take you to Sao Paulo first then you have to connect to Rio... It's a 15 hour plane flight. Sucks.

You should expect to blow 3-5 grand for the whole trip.

Having said that, Rio is the most naturally beautiful place on the planet, has tons to do, would be amazing to visit during the World Cup, etc..... If you stay out of the scary areas, I think you'd have a blast. The culture, the food, the juices, the beaches, everything would be fun.

France-England game was kinda disappointing. The way of this tournament's going isn't good as I expected it would be, as the first games completed. I hope the level of the competition and the game will rise as the teams work off the opening stress.

This thread isn't getting the attention that it deserves. I know most Americans don't love football(soccer), but I love it, almost as much as I love Basketball.

Aaaaannnd, I want you to love it too. So maybe these can help for it.

I like soccer so much I'm going to a bar to watch the US qualifying game tomorrow (since it's only on PPV here, sigh).

Hey.. I didn't realize there was a Euro thread! I'm stoked, Germany is pegged to win by a bunch of people. I'm worried, however, because, our guys have thrived at playing the underdog role.

Also, We need to play Klose more.

Killing my buzz man! Yeah I'm prepared to drop some money for it.

Germany is always a favorite or sub-favorite in all tournaments, because they have a certain level even in their worst days. However, I'm already biased about German NT basically because they eliminated us last Euro and Ozil choosed them over us. And at first game they didn't help me to like them either. My father is rooting for them and praise their disciplined football, but it's his bias I think, because he worked there when he was young. But of course if they play good football, everything changes for me and I'd root for them, hence Ozil would be one of my reasons to root.

Agreed about Klose, this will be his last major tournament, I think he would do everything he could to give an edge to his team.

Anyway, Chzechs won against Greece as expected, 2-1, but in ten minutes, the more important game for me(Poland-Russia) will start, I'm curious about Russia as hell since I missed their first game.

Give Germany a chance against The desperate Dutch tomorrow. Portugal threw everybody in the box and stifled Germany quite a bit, in fact, it was one of the ugliest games I have seen of Germany. Lahm played putridly and Schweinsteigger was non-existent. Ozil is simply amazing to watch in the open field. If Germany makes noise this tournament it's because of him. Why are you so interested in the Russians? I know they are a group of vets, and maybe a dark horse team in the tourney, but that is all I know of them.
