Do you think the happiest man right now might be KOC? He's taken a couple of big chances two years in a row drafting Hayward and now Kanter (well three chances if you count the Deron trade that also brought Favors). After a dismal first few months, Hayward caught fire after the all-star break. And Kanter definitely looks like he'll be an impact player. At WORST, I think Kanter and Favors will each be double-double players given 25-30 mins.
I'd compare both of them to a 2nd-year Carlos Boozer. He had ZERO plays called for him in Cleveland (and that was the primary reason he wanted out). Yet he still managed to average 15/11 in 35 mins/per. In Carlos' rookie season, he averaged 10/7 in 25 mins. Favors put up 7/5 in 20 mins/per. Give him another 5 mins and he probably matches Boozer's rookie season. And I think we can expect the same numbers on a per/minute basis from Kanter, or perhaps better since he also shoots a high percentage from the line. That in itself is HUGE. How many bigs are fouled late in games specifically because they miss FT's? Even as great as Dwight Howard is, that's still a big hole in his game. Foul him late because he shoots < 60%.
It's going to be hard to keep Kanter off the floor. I think we're going to see the same thing happen that we did with Millsap in his rookie year. Kanter is just going to force Ty to play him 20 mins/per. And that means Millsap will be FORCED to play minutes at the 3 (or grumble and get himself traded).
