Hood's production is going to go up as Hayward isn't on the team anymore. If he approaches anything near his potential, that is going to shoot up his price. If 15 per get it's done now, you do that. Now.
Hayward wasnt an injury concern. At worst he was just an average starter.
Hood is injured constantly and his worst is a mediocre bench player.
I'd have a lot of interest in a Hood signed at 15 million. Dude is going to be featured this year. No way he doesn't blow up statistics wise. . .
And team's best wing defenders will be on him instead of Hayward. That means Jimmy Butler 4 times a year. Kawhi Leonard 4 times a year. Tony Allen. I think we're in store for a lot of 4-15 shooting nights.
Possibly. But the team's best defender shadowing Hood on the perimeter is exactly what we want, no? Also, the entire Jazz Offense is predicated on using the shot clock to get the matchup they want. This is why Haywood's Offense against elite defenders improved. Only two years ago Haywood was going 4-15 against the likes of Butler.

I have mapped it out. To clear a large amount of cap space would require renouncing Favs and Exum, declining non-guaranteed contracts for Udoh, Sefolosha and Jerebko. Since Hood's cap hold is small ($7m or so), Jazz could keep his rights and re-sign as their final roster move (or wait until last moment to match an offer). TBH, I just don't see them being players in free agency. Probably a better chance of making a trade. And if Favs is healthy, he might be the best FA available for Utah to sign.I haven't mapped it out but we may not want to extend Hood for cap reasons. His cap hold is super low and I think there will actually be some value in next year's FA class. I think we'd have some maneuvering to do but I think we could create some decent room and there are not many good teams that will have space.
Unless we think we are getting an okay discount then I might actually wait but give assurances we want this to get done next year after we've utilized space... Spurs did this with Kawhi and detroit did it with Drummond.
There also may be a team that is desperate to dump salary to sign one of the big FA. This is not nearly as cut and dry as I initially thought.

All of those things are easy to do though... so if you can get a deal done you clear the space and sign someone... if not you retain the rights and decide which to keep.
Don't be stupid. Haywood's offense improved cause Haywood improved it. All hate aside he got himself mo betta.
Y'all actin like Haywood ain't deserving a all start bid IN THE WEST is straight silly. Any team would gladly hand him the max. That is why fans are so butt hurt over this. Git over it mane.
Haywood improved, but much of his jump occurred because the Jazz put him in a much better situation. Every time Haywood would iso, it was after the Jazz ran enough rubs to give him an advantageous matchup. When they couldn't do this, Haywood would generally just launch a quick 3 or attempt a midrange fadeaway, especially at the end of quarters. At one point last year I thought that his fadeaway had regressed, but then I realized he would just go to the hole with the easier matchups that he used to take that shot on. Last year he only used the fadeaway when he was stymied from doing anything else. That was a good basketball decision.
I thought it was an ideal match and I'm not sure the "basketball genius" Brad Stevens will get any more out of Hayward than we did. His game was efficient, unforced, and seemed to match our free flowing style. I know Kyrie is saying the right things now, but honestly I think guys will revert back to what they do best... dude likes to hold the ball... dribble and go to work... he is great at it, but it limits the offensive ceiling of teams he plays on.
I will go on record right now and say I think Hayward averages less points per game this year and I think his shooting percentage may dip. Not a catastrophic fall, but not as good as last year.
