Favorite Movie of All-Time

I love an artistic film as much as the next guy but I also love film as an outlet for ridiculous humor. That said my favorite film of all time is:

My view of the greatest film of all toggles between It's A Wonderful Life, Schindler's List, and the Lord Of The Rings trilogy.

Always liked Christmas Vacation best of the Vacation movies, although I'm probably somewhat biased since it's kind of a Christmas tradition in my family.

"Can I refill your eggnog for you? Get you something to eat? Drive you out to the middle of nowhere and leave you for dead?"
 
Can't say I have a favorite.

Ones I always love to watch are Shawshank Redemption, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Wall-E, Down Periscope. Loved The Pentagon Wars the couple times I've seen it. Fantasia is always good to watch. I enjoyed the fun Maverick provides, same with the Mel Brooks' famous spoofs. I like Cars, Antz, a lot of Schwarzenegger stuff in all their ridiculousness. I'm sure more will come to mind once I hit "Post Quick Reply"

I guess that would be my top 5 but I can easily replace a few of these movies for others

Aint no action in that flik, eh, bat? No wimminz, no scenary, no nuthin. It all starts and ends in the same tiny-*** room, and them pervs don't do nuthin but talk, talk, talk the whole damn time.
 
Wow...tough question. I like someone's inclusion of Truman Show on this list because I thought it was a very interesting story line at the time and Carrey really surprised me in it....then he one-upped himself in one of the few love stories i like Eternal Sunshine.

As for me, there are quite a few I like for various reasons: Shawshank, Groundhog Day, Frailty, Fugitive, Godfather I-III, Unforgiven, Solaris, Master&Commander, Of Mice And Men, Prestige, Departed, Mr. Brooks, etc, etc

I also really liked Shutter Island, just saw it for the first time the other day. Ive read very mixed reviews though. Hacks.

Impossible to pick one favorite - but off the top of my head:

Comedy - Raising Arizona, The King of Comedy, Clerks
Drama - The Godfather, The Player, The Conversation, Blue Velvet
Horror - The Shining, Dawn of the Dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (all original versions)
Sci-Fi - Alien, Blade Runner, Escape From New York

Pulp Fiction, it ROCKS, eh, Blood!? Alla them you mentioned is purty damn good....well, I dunno bout the sci-fi ones, I aint never seen em, but, still...
 
Now that many people have listed several contenders I don't feel so bad violating the "only one" rule for the thread. I can list them in different categories.

Best (as distinct from favorite): Magnolia

It's impossible to succintly describe everything that's right about this movie, but the entire thing from the opening three-segment monologue about the nature of probability and coincidence to P.T. Anderson's crazy-long hallway passing shots to virtually every sentence uttered by Frank T.J. Mackey is simply sublime. Lots of people hate the frog thing; I love it. The movie is basically cinematic ecstasy and I truly believe it is the greatest film to ever have been committed to celluloid.

Overall Favorite: Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2

My living room is basically a Tarantino shrine. This is my favorite Tarantino film (I think of them as one movie). To paraphrase Rasheed Wallace, "thousands of dollars in memorabilia don't lie." And yes, I know that not listing Pulp Fiction as your favorite Tarantino is essentially blasphemy. I can only plead the favorite/best distinction as my defense.

Sentimental Favorite: It's a Wonderful Life

Predictable choice. Sappy. Almost unforgivably saccharin. Brings the house down at sirkicky manor every time.

Favorite Classic Comedy: Duck Soup

If you've seen it, you know.

Favorite Modern Comedy: Airplane

In terms of laugh-a-minute comedies it's unbeatable.

Favorite classic "romantic comedy:" Adam's Rib

The best of the Tracy and Hepburn films.

Favorite modern "romantic comedy:" Broadcast News

Hilarious (I love Albert Brooks) and manages the triangle better than any other film.

Favorite foreign film: Cinema Paradiso

Favorites that have to be mentioned: The Purple Rose of Cairo; The Thin Man
 
Ya left out the "best documentary" category, eh, Kicky, where, needless to say, the honor goes to "Hail, Hail, Rock and Roll." The way Chuck punks Keith Richards around in that probably aint never gunna be beat.
