Favors for Porz?

There are a ton of questions around how a 7'3 guy comes back from a major knee injury that need to be answered before you can crown the Mavs as contenders, but the potential fit is frightening.
Yeah, of course I am assuming KP is back to at least his 95%.

Porzingis is not that good. Doncic is great, and he'll grow into a stud. But I don't expect Dallas to be anything special next year. Probably will be fighting for a playoffs spot.
Are you expecting Cuban to be done and roll with what he has now after the trade?

He's been overrated because he played in NY and is the only decent piece they've had since trash Melo.

Well, he is running out of assets. I expect he'll be able to improve the team over the next few years. And they have a good chance to become a contender eventually. Just not next year, and likely not the year after that either.

The number of people who don't think Porzingis is good here is surprising. He's got some stuff he needs to work on and he's going to be playing probably around 70 - 80% of what he could do prior to the injury next season but I don't blame the Mavs for taking a flyer on him at all.

Porzingis in an actual system with a good organisation, and another budding superstar player in Doncic (who Porzingis has great respect for from Eurobasket) should see his efficiency numbers climb if he gets back to even 90% of what he was compared to the dumpster fire teams he played with in NYK (he shot 41.7% on catch and shoot 3s in his 3rd season for example), will be able to provide some real rim protection on defense unlike DeAndre "stands and waits for the rebound" Jordan (KP's tracking numbers for shots less than 6ft are Gobert-level good), and he's a guy who's also capable of getting to the line with 5.7 attempts a game in his 3rd season. He'll also have one of the better coaches in the league in Carlisle to put him in the right spots and help him develop some playmaking options, have Dirk as a mentor for him, and he'll reap the benefits of being in a decent organisation as well.

He's absolutely a good player and the only reason why any NBA team would double guess trading for him is purely out of his current and potential injury concerns as 7'3 guys in the NBA as thin as him don't have a good track record health wise, but he is a special basketball talent if he can stay healthy and at worst a borderline all star player.

Shut up, you're making me feel worse!

Ya I mean he was an all star at 22 years old, averaged 23 points per game in just over 32 minutes, is a dangerous outside shooter, averages 2.4 blocks per game in his last season, gets to the line, and you can't teach 7 foot 3.

His advanced numbers aren't much. He just had a green light in NYC. 23 a game as a young'un on a bad team is a world of difference from 23 as a leader of a playoff team.

Now, don't get me wrong. He's a monster talent and just based on that, the Mavs made out like bandits. If he recovers well, he's a star in this league. But he's not going to be a star next year.

"Porzingis talked with Knicks management about the state of the franchise and his future with the team. Porzingis and his brother, Janis, who is also his agent, expressed their frustration with the franchise's losing ways, past dysfunction on the team and uncertainty over creating a sustainable, successful organization, Wojarowski reports."

Sounds like Porz wanted out.

wow, the pieces that mavs gave away were pure garbage. can't believe Knicks fell for it. this trade looked so bad that made me think that even we had a chance in landing Porz have we offered Favs.

You know what I love about this? The whole reasoning behind the Knicks doing this is that they wanna try and sign the likes of Durant, Irving, Leonard, and even Cousins this summer. What's the pitch here?

Check out how we completely ruined our relationship with the biggest talent we've drafted since 1985 and then traded him for magic beans. Oh, and we've made playoffs four times this millennium. Wanna come play for us, dudes who have won NBA titles*?

* Cousins will obviously have a ring come summer.

Hayward not only didn't want to sign with Utah but he wanted to do as much harm to the franchise as possible but making sure he didn't give us a heads up in advance so we could get some assets in return.

I respect these players that are at least being honest with the teams about the future. It helps both the team and the player.

Teams that gets best player usually wins, which would be a healthy Unicorn, but Knicks got a really good package and flexibility. Dennis Smith could be a Eastern All Star + they could re-sign DJ + they got an unprotected 1st rounder and another Top 10 protected 1st rounder.
