What's new

Favors had 23 pts 15 rebounds after 3 and Corbin benched him for the entire 4th quarter.

First you say that Favors would have prevented the perimeter shots, and then you say "well it wasn't Favors fault when they DID THAT EXACTLY earlier on in the game"

Just stop your posts and call it a night.

The perimeter shots from earlier in the game were because our guards couldn't defend for ****. Several of the perimeter shots when Favors was out was because of Millsap failing to rotate.

I think there is a little something to it. We had three guys on the court taking shots and not scoring. If any of them had hit a few of those shots, the score wouldn't have been so bad. It really does come down to the fact that we are playing guys who shouldn't be playing that. It's hard to throw all of the blame on one person though because of how many injuries we have right now.

LOL @ people thinking Favors didn't perform when 3 of his teammates of the floor were flat out terrible.

No one is saying Favors didn't perform. He played a stellar game. We are simply defending Ty's choice to keeping Kanter and Millsap in it, which clearly had positive effects throughout the game, until their guards kept the unconscious shooting.

Just to clarify Favors deserved the minutes, and it was unfair to him, but that decision absolutely did not cost us this game and you're really reaching to argue that.

.....a lot of reasons for this loss.....21 turnovers, 4 by Watson who gave us absolutely nothing offensively or defensively. Missed key free throws. A turrible shooting game by Hayward. Our back court being outscored 54 to 0!!! But losing by 1 point in overtime on the road.....you'd think our coach should be worth at least 2 points in decision making to put us over the top, right?

It was ridiculous Favors spent the entire 4th-quarter and overtime on the bench. He accumulated 23&15 through 3-quarters merely by crashing the boards, taking high-percentage shots and flashing to open areas. He was clearly the Jazz's best player and Utah could've used his length and defensive presence, especially when Monta Ellis was getting to the rim in the 4th on those 2 back-door cuts. Most importantly, Favors could have returned without disrupting any Jazz momentum because unlike some players, he doesn't need to dominate the ball to make a positive impact. The only bad thing I can say about Favors' performance tonight was that he had to play on the court at the same time Earl Watson/Randy Foye/Marvin Williams simultaneously took their biggest dump of the season (which is saying something) at the Bradley Center.

Ty went with Millsap down the stretch and Millsap shot 2-6 in OT and missed a FT with 14.9 seconds left in regulation that could've given Utah a 4-point lead (Reddick tied it on the ensuing possession). So Utah went with experience over not just "youth" but legit on-court production and lost ...which is what we should expect from the organization these days.

I don't really care that the Jazz lost and will be facing a stiff test just to make the playoffs as an 8th seed for the second consecutive season, but mostly I feel bad for Favors. If the kid finally gets his chance and he plays that hard and that well for 3-quarters and still can't see the court for the final 17 minutes of the game, hard to see how he'll be a vital cog for Utah in the future unless they let lose both Millsap&Al (which I think they'll keep one). The hilarious/sad part is Deron got ticked at Sloan for only playing 29mpg and starting 47/80 games as a rookie an d Favors is here in year 3 with the Jazz down 1 big, is playing the game of his life and can't get back onto the court. What a waste this season is becoming...there are definitely some good things coming out of it but it could be so much better.

So at the start of the postgame show Alema said we'd hear from Derrick Favors. We didn't.

Think Favors is irked? To be honest I'm shocked he hasn't blown up yet.

Since Derrick is a low-ego, quiet, and from all accounts a good teammate I don't think he'd ever have some sort of outburst...but as a competitor how could he not feel frustrated with how his playing time transpired over the course of the game? The thought "What do I have to do to get PT?" has to have crossed his mind as he watched his team lose. I wasn't trying to start any "Is Favors unhappy" rumblings because there's no inclination Favors is frustrated but I really did want to hear what he had to say. (Not that the slow-pitch Jazz beat-writers would ask him any real questions like: "After playing so well was it hard sitting on the bench for the final 17 minutes").

I had no problem with Favors sitting. You can't please everyone. We were playing well with the guys on the floor, it's too bad it had to come from Favors minutes but it felt like the right move, given chemistry.

We didnt lose this game because of our bigs. Millsap and kanter played well enough for us to win. Whether favors should have played is irrelevant.

We lost this game because of our starting 1-3. Their play (or lack thereof) contributed more to our loss than if favors had scored 50 points and gathered in 50 rebounds.

It's a principle thing, not a "Well the results were okay so the method must have been fine" thing. If you tell your team to shoot a behind the back 3 at the buzzer for the win, that's stupid. If the shot goes in, it's still stupid. I know that's extreme, but what other coach in the NBA doesn't finish with a starter that gets 23 points and 15 rebounds through 3 quarters?

This is one decision I support of Corbin's. Kanter was stupendous and clutch. Millsap was very good as well. Corbin rode the hot hands in the fourth and it should have worked. Favor's shot blocking would have been nice, but he has struggled on the offensive end many times. This was an impossible choice for Corbin; all three bigs play very well. It was the starting three, who scored 0 points, that killed this game. Hayward looked like crap as well. Love DeMarre!!

That's just it. He can't get more pt no matter how he plays. He and Kanter could get 20 and 20s off the bench and Corbin would still go to Al and Paul to finish if they are available.

We have an asshat for a coach and it isn't changing.

I couldn't watch the 3rd quarter of the game, but didn't Milwaukee rape us in the 3rd quarter with Favors in?
Honestly, we lost tonight because of Earl, Foye, and Marvin. Favors should be POd about the minutes but hopefully he comes back next game even stronger. *****ing Watson.

I don't think Al will be back next game either so I can't wait to see how Favors responds. Hopefully positively.

Nice post. This harkens back to a couple other threads basically saying that NO front court combination is going to have a positive +/- when Watson and Foye are the guards. They don't rebound, struggle on defense, and evidently don't score either.

I don't always agree with Thriller, but I do this time.

I have a tough time believing The Org isn't planting bad seeds with three of The Four.

@Tjonessltrib: I wonder if Greg popovich would sit a big who gets 23 and 15 in three quarters for the rest of the game???

Lol

Why do we torture ourselves with this crap

It is simply amazing that Watson and Marvin Williams even sniff the floor at this point. That's probably the biggest crime as there is NO defense (Tinsley, Foye, Burks, Hayward, and Carroll are ALL substantially better alternatives).
