Favors, Hood (the #23) and Exum (the #5) for...

Would you make a trade today with Cleveland?

Since we all love to appear wise because of our hindsight, let's revisit the trade that never happened.

Assume the offer was made of Favors, the #5 and #23. Sure, the Jazz can try to do damage control and say Favors was never a major part of any trade - and that would be true - the major components were the #1 and #5 picks. But they never denied a trade was discussed. Reports then had the Cavs wanting our unprotected pick next year. My guess is that was INSTEAD of the #23. Jazz allegedly countered by offering Burks instead of the 2015 pick.

So knowing NOW what we didn't know THEN...

Let's imagine Lindsey and the GM for Cleveland are talking on the phone today. Do you imagine the same deal is on the table from the Jazz?

Jazz: offers
1. Favors, Exum and Hood
2. Or Favors, Exum and Burks

Cleveland: offers Wiggins and Jack

Do you make the trade?

Edit: since it is a hindsight poll and we would have had the #1, I also put in an option for Parker instead of Wiggins.

Basically, I think Lindsey made the offer thinking he'd be left with a choice between Gordon and Vonleh (or Randle), assuming he wouldn't be interested in a hurt Embiid IF he fell. We may look back on this draft as one of the biggest draft blunders ever by Orlando.

Tough one.
I probably do it still.

I believe wiggins will be a star and burks+trey do alot of the things exum does.

Hood wont be much of a difference maker imo. Easily replaceable.

Tough call though. Its hard to say how good wiggins or exum will be.

And even favors to a lesser extent.

I probably do the trade but i like our guys so im happy with how things turned out

No. But hindsight is 20/20.

I was completely in favor of this deal before the draft. Two things, though:

1. I never thought Exum would be there at 5.
2. I never thought Hood would be there at 23.

I still think Wiggins is a really special talent but I love our haul. And I'm really glad we didn't lose Favors. I still think he anchors our frontcourt for the next decade.

I was down with the trade assuming Exum would be gone before 5. I think the trade might have gone down had the jazz not gotten Exum. I am ecstatic that we landed Exum and kept everyone else.

Not in a million years.

I just wanted one of Wiggins/Jabari/Exum.

I don't think I can say with any certainty who I think will be the best of the three.

Hopefully the Jazz franchise rolls a 7 on the come out.

Pretty much reflects my line of thinking. I think Exum has the potential to be the most dominant player at his position. He'd be big for a SG and even bigger as PG. Combine size WITH quickness. That's superstar potential.

I like the mismatches a lineup of Exum at PG and Hayward at SG create. If Hayward re-signs - and Exum develops - I could see the Jazz shopping Trey and Alec in 1-2 seasons for an all-star small forward.

Will be interesting to revisit this at the end of next season and the year after (i.e. the trade that almost happened).
Hack and dipship own bragging rights if Wiggins and Parker become superstars and Exum disappoints.

The trade wouldn't have been for Wiggins but for Parker. The Jazz front office had Parker as their #1 on the board. I have said all along that I think Embiid and Exum will end up being the top players in the draft and Parker will be slightly above average. Therefore, I would not make the trade.

Yes, and I'd throw in next year's first as well(if they demanded it). A true superstar is worth that type of hit. Favors is good, but he's not a franchise changer . Hood looks like he'll be solid, but again he's not going to take this team anywhere. Exum is the great unknown. Unless he turned into a big star this trade would be a success. The odds are that Wiggins and Parker will be stars over Exum. We just know a lot more about that two, and seen them against tougher competition. Exum could be a star or even superstar, but I see the odds of that happening has much much longer than the top two players in the draft. With that said, I play the odds, and go for the best chance at drafting a star. Yes, it will sting a little to get him, but it should.

I am excited about Exum falling on our lap as much as the next guy, but there is enormous difference between Parker, who proved to be star in NCAA, and Exum, who dominated Australian HS kids. Yeah, he also made all tournament team in U19 championship, but this is not saying much: Gordon was MVP in the same tourney and most people who made all tourney team throughout the years didn't amount to anything.

Think of it like this: Randle was considered superstar prospect, top 2 in the world, a year ago after HS, and his HS competition was A LOT better than Exum's. Now after a very good NCAA season Randle is drafted #7 and he is no longer thought of as a superstar potential. Exum had a chance to go to NCAA and show if he really is a superstar potential, but decided against it. Who knows what NCAA competition would reveal?

Exum is very much a question mark right now. Parker is as close to a superstar as one can be drafted at 19 years of age.

Parker's issue is defense. Parker may be considered a star the way Melo but as far as winning? Somehow he needs to become a respectable defender to do the and be a real star.

Randle is going to be good too but his lack of length hurts his ceiling. He is pretty much a carlos boozer and I don't even think he's as long as him. His wingspan is subpar and he doesn't have the athleticism like Blake Griffin to make up for it. Randle is a poor defender also.

Exum has plenty of question marks. But he also has a lot going for him. He is said be be incredibly fast and his first step is legit. He is good in transition and his body control is excellent. Right now he's a bad defender, but it isn't due to a lack of physical gifts like it seems to be for Randle as Parker. He has the tools, but he had lots of work to do to become a good defender, but the point is he has the size and length to do it.

Not a single one of us can answer this because we haven't seen Exum play. Can we wait to see Exum play?

Based on a Vegas betting line???

I was all in on trading for Wiggins but if the basketball gods told me we'd get Exum at 5 I would defs. not be down to trade half our assets for Wiggins. It'll be interesting to see how things turn out 5 years from now.
