What's new

Game Thread Feb 02, 2022 08:00PM MT: Jazz vs. Nuggets

Added to Calendar: 02-02-22

@Saint Cy of JFC asked a question on Udoka... I think its conditioning. I don't think its laziness just that there is no way to simulate game action and he's such a large human. I thought he played well. Rivers blocking his dunk was a little cringy but it happens.

I don't think he ever looks high energy if he has to play more than backup minutes. I have seen enough to say that if Whiteside wants to bounce next year we can just keep Doke as one of the backups... I'd pursue a cheap stretch option if there was one out there to add to the mix but he's fine in spot duty imo.

The Jazz played hard last night and really tried to move the ball. I really enjoyed it. Hopefully this notion of playing defense without a rim protector and passing the ball catches on.

Win is cool and all, but the Jazz should have beat that team by `10 points.

The Jazz need Gobert back ASAP or they looking at another 5 game losing streak coming up.

They would have but Nuggs couldn't miss first half. I thought we played well and showed some guts... especially when one of your two main guys is way off and as a team you shot like ****.

One thing I noted.... Jared Butler shot a half court three to end a quarter or the half... much respect for taking the shot and hurting your % even though it will hurt you more than others because of low attempts.

Respect.

Here’s a crazy idea:

When you have 1.6 seconds on the clock and you’re behind the half-court line, inbound it long into your half-court so that you can maybe get a shot off. If it gets picked off, the other team MIGHT have time to heave it, but if you get it to your own player then you can get an actual shot off.

It seriously drives me nuts how much a possession down the stretch is so valuable that you’ll rack up fouls and burn all of your timeouts, but the possessions at the end of every other quarter are THE WORST of the entire game. You’d also do a favor to your players that really don’t want to take the absolute worst shots in all of basketball (heaves).

They need to not count heaves against fg%. its one of the funnest things ever when guys make them and no one shoots them anymore cuz of stats. The players would love to shoot them too.

Gobert shot one, 3 pt stats be damned! Of course he made it so he is now batting 1000% on unofficial 3s. Pretty sure that is the most important stat.

Nope… they don’t count… these guys always shoot them just a little late. I admire the guys that put them up on the 3-5% chance they fall. Just don’t have them count as a fg attempt unless the fall… make basketball fun again. #MBFA

It’d actually be really easy to count any shot beyond half court as a “heave” and placed in another column. That way you don’t have to be arbitrary about what constitutes a heave. But it’d be funny when guys clearly have space but end up staying behind the line.

Many web sites have this breakout available. It just isn't an official stat. Would be cool if it were. I would also like to see anything shot with under 2 seconds left on any clock as it's own thing. 2 seconds on the shot clock, end of quarters, end of game. Much higher pressure situations. We penalize the guy that ends up with the hot potato.
