How about recently?

I usually watch some World Cup. Sucks that USA isn’t in it though.
I watched a lot of Portugal vs Spain and it was very entertaining. Watched about half of the Argentina game and enjoyed it. I thought Messi played pretty poorly. Watched a bit of the Denmark game.
I actually like women’s World Cup games better though. Not only are many of them hot but I also think they have more shots at the goal which makes it more exciting. I’m thinking that maybe the men are too good technically and therefore rarely make mistakes that lead to scoring opportunities. Where as the women have more mistakes and play a bit “looser” which leads to more opportunity at the goal.
Helps that the USA women’s team is usually really good too.

Maybe in S.American qualifiers? Any other competition is it always head to head results, then total wins, then goal differential. Props to Peru anyway, they played way better than I was expecting. But to be honest Denmark played way worse than usual and still managed to win, all that experience playing in top European leagues matters.... both Sisto and Eriksen looked nervous and made bunch of sloppy passes, Jorgensen was kind of meh.. I would rather see Cornelius or Fisher as a striker.... Eriksen usually is clinical in finishing those one one chances and this time he hit the keeper instead of the corner of the net at the end of the game where he could have made it 2-0. Anyway, nothing would make me happy if Peru beats France and both Peru and Denmark advance, your fans were amazing and it is so crazy that so many were able to make it to Russia from relatively poor country.
If by recently you mean that I remember watching (1990 ish and beyond), 4 different teams that I recall.
I could be biased I guess but the passion in the stands and the media coverage in Spain is truly great. And there must be a reason why the greatest players all want to land a gig in Spain: Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar..
Even David Beckham went to Real Madrid. The fact that there are 2 giants in the league, Real Madrid and Barcelona, makes it sweeter when a smaller team beats them.
Peru is kind of under the radar, just like the Jazz. Its play shouldn't surprise others: they ve' been undefeated since 2016 and with some top-3 finishes in Cup America. I think Peru is top-9 in the Fifa world ranking. Those are some nice accolades but Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay and even Argentina (who is playing like total crap) get more attention. Peru's best player (Guerrero) is considered the best S.American 9 besides Suarez. I can imagine Peruvian players joining top European teams after the World Cup (most are playing in lesser leagues like Portugal, Denmark, Netherlands, Belgium...)
Note: Peru is a mid-income country

I enjoy the world cup... but basketball is so much the superior sport. Im not pretending to change any minds as ive had this discussion before with friends and never seemed to get anywhere... but the offsides rule gives too much discretion to the refs and most the time theres any good action it ends up with guys tripping and the ball being kicked out of bounds.
My 2 cents
This is what I dislike most. 90% of the time something exciting is happening it ends in disappointmentmost the time theres any good action it ends up with guys tripping and the ball being kicked out of bounds.

The great Johan Cruyff wanted to straight up abolish the offsides rule. It would definitely be interesting to watch and there would be a lot more scoring.
