Following 2016 potential draftees

Thon Maker declaring for the 2016 draft.

Is that guy really in danger of not being a first round pick? Draft sites seem to not like him anymore. Crazy how much his stock has fallen over the years. He has looked pretty average the few times I've seen him.....but I bet some team still reaches for him in the teens if he is draft eligible.

FWIW, Ford has Skal at #16 and Thon at #20. One or both could be available when we pick, along with Luwawu, Korkmaz, and Baldwin. There should definitely be some good options available for us in the mid teens.

Lindsey gonna pull off the steal of the draft yet again?

I'd have to defer to someone like PGAB who actually watches HS basketball on Thon Maker. Nothing I read about him seems to be overly impressive other than he is long and agile. Doesnt seem to have overly impressed since he blew up on the radar a couple of years ago. I'd really rather not draft a project that extreme with our pick. Rather take a guy who can contribute in a 10 mpg role and has upside, like a Chriss/Kormaz/Baldwin

I do remember watching Maker in one of those HS All-Star type games last year and being thoroughly unimpressed.

The rule states that you have to be 19 and one year removed from high school. Maker turned 19 in February, but he still attends high school in Canada. He basically would have to convince the NBA that he was a member of the 2015 class and decided to do a post-graduate year. He had the chance to reclassify to the 2015 class and play college ball this year, but he decided to stay another year so he could play with his younger brother on the high school basketball team.

ESPN doesn't have Maker ranked in their 2016 recruting class because he doesn't play high school basketball in the US, but I read an article a few months ago that said he would be ranked #4 behind Giles, Tatum, and Jackson. I would take a chance on him around #15 or #16, why not? A top-5 recruit in the teens I say go for it. He's a legit 7-footer and I'm pretty sure he was the #1 recruit in the country for 2016 when he was playing high school ball in the US back in 2014.

This is a good point, but I'd still take a chance on Maker.

^^^ Thon hits a couple threes in that video. If he can do that consistently I would definitely take him over Skal.

Thon Maker would make the Utah Stars an interesting team to watch and possibly sell some D-League tickets.

So Thon is waiting for NBA to decide if he is eligible?

DX: What has the NBA told you about your petition to become draft-eligible this year?

TM: I am awaiting a response from the NBA.

Sources said Maker is awaiting official word from the NBA regarding his eligibility but couldn’t get an answer until he declared for the draft. Maker and his family expect an answer soon. – via ESPN.com

Marc J. Spears: From what I saw of Thon Maker live the last 3 years, I really hope he changes his mind about NBA & goes to college. Nice kid. Far from ready

sounds like NBA personal haven't been too impressed with him during the events he has been a part of. He's still has a lot of potential with his size and athletic ability. I could definitely see him being available at our pick, unless he has some monster work outs. He's a swing for the fence type of pick and we could use our newly localized d-league team to get him experience.

I just read through his interview. Seems like a great mature kid (Maker). He seems raw as hell. He is saying the right things and could be pretty interesting. I think he's a total swing for the fences guy.

Hopefully he's in the draft though... I would rather someone else take a chance on him. I think Luwawu will be the steal of the draft if he goes around 20 like Ford is projecting. Seems he has a lot of what you need to be a great wing.
