The Jazz are well positioned to move up in any of these next few drafts though, and could absorb the cost better than most. IMO they're still in 'asset acquisition mode', there's nothing that signals urgency in drafting Lyles.
This is totally a homegrown rebuild.. they're using FA's as placeholders. there's not even an official thread on free agency with 12 hours til its live, because the rosters so talented already. this F/O should be commended for their patience.. I really like this tactic and hope it continues, it will probably pay huge dividends. I always wanted to root for a team who did exactly this, it's what the Knicks would never do.
It appears like the F/O really did have Lyles singled out of the bunch though. I'd imagine they had quite a few offers for that pick.
perhaps im reading into it too much - I look at Lyles and to a lesser degree Hanlan, they seem to be almost hand picked for the system in place.. Hanlan not so much to for staying power, I don't see them taking a 2nd rounder unless they thought hes got a chance to flash in the system.
Could there be projects that match similar criteria in next years draft ?? I don't see why not.
