What's new

Following potential 2012 draftees

What are everyone's impressions on Jae Crowder? Particularly those that have watched him play this year?

I like the players that Marquette produces and I'm a DX junkie, so naturally, I'm intrigued.

He has dreads, plays at Marquette, is a SG. We have to draft him in the 2nd round if he is available as far as I am concerned.

I can get behind that. Some interesting facts: 2:1 ast:to ratio, 17 ppg on 50% from the field (60% from 2 37% from 3 [on 5 shots a game]), 2.4 steals per game. Will likely be the Big East player of the year. Supposed to be a workhorse.

I guess the thing I want to know is if his defense is as good as advertised and other things that don't exactly show up in a line.

Crowder is a SG?? Nevermind, I won't start something. Carry on.

pssst .. he's a PF for Marquette.
I took it as he's a wing in the NBA. But I just wanted to move forward since he'd be nothing but a SF on a team like the Jazz.

I've watched him a lot. He is a workhorse, no doubt. Makes very few mistakes. Understands his role on both ends of the floor and gets it done.
On defense, he plays hard, is strong, understands positioning, but when he plays against elite (NBA) talent, he shows he can't defend SF's, imo. He's a lunch pail type of guy (which I like). He kinda sorta reminds me of Chuck Hayes. Too small, too unathletic, but slaps the bitches with his fortitude and BBIQ and gets it done, anyway.

I like him a lot .. but he's a PF in a slow SF's body. I'd put him around 30'ish.

I just addressed that in the above post .. but I'm not sure he's that, either .. a major downgrade from Sap (my prediction).

I can see that, but Crowder is much more of a perimeter player than Sap was coming out of college (which is part of what endears me to Sap [his incredible growth as a player]).

What I want to get at is that as a 2nd-rounder, you could do a lot worse. This draft isn't as good as advertised, but I like a lot of the guys from the mid-1st and on. I would rather have Jeff Taylor, but I don't think he would make sense as high as where the Jazz will likely draft (probably twice) and probably not be available in the 2nd. They seem like they could play similar roles.

Jeez, Montana just can't miss. Watching cheat code shooting when it isn't your team is frustrating.

I'm sorry that I picked one little thing to respond to rather than core issues .. but I believe this draft will prove to be as strong as hyped .. if not stronger. There will be a bunch of guys picked up in the 2nd round that will be considered steals in years to come .. more than in most years, by far.
