Following potential 2012 draftees

We were talking NBA teams and he was just explaining that it will be hard, for the first time in his life, to be likely playing for a team that will not be competing for a championship. I asked if he could choose a team, which would he play for ... he said he didn't really have a favorite NBA team (used to like the Knicks as a little kid, but not so much anymore). I then just asked him if he would like to play on a team that had plenty of talent, was slightly under-performing, and desperately needed a locker room glue-guy .. a guy that could set the tone for the team .. a guy that could come in as a youngster and have an opportunity (like he did at UK) to help establish a team identity.

He laughed and said, "You just described me, man .. what team is that?" For the first time ever, I told him I was a Jazz fan (taboo to talk much NBA prior to a player declaring). I told him about the roster, the coaching, the fans, etc. He asked why I knew so much and I told him about my partners being Jazz fans and about this board. He was totally shocked when I told him how many posts I have here and that I have a total of 3 posts on other team's boards. I told him about this thread and he seemed blown away by the interest Jazz fans took in watching UK players this year (I may have exaggerated? ---- If you read this, Michael, sorry bro, lol).

Anyway, he called me several hours later and told me he checked out the board and the thread and that he got a real kick out of the analysis, humor, and 'terrible takes.' I found the terrible takes part hilarious. He seemed genuinely appreciative of what we've talked about here for the last 6 months. I jokingly asked him if he read the whole thread .. he said, "naw, man, I'm done with book reports for a while."

I wouldn't call him a fan, for sure .. but I would say he knows as much about our teams and fans as much as he does any other team .. and will follow a little more closely.
I am trying to get him to sign up on this board, but he said he's not permitted to do that .. but that he may drop by and check things out from time to time.

Oh yeah, he also said, 'does coach (Cal) know you post this stuff here?' I said, NO. He laughed and said, that's good.

Verlin,

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Verlin again.

The reason there has been so much more info recently is because there's much more freedom of talking about things/topics that were totally off limits while the season was in-play. The season is over and now the players and coaches have moved their focus from winning the championship to getting these kids drafted and getting them good advice. Calipari's phone rings off the hook with NBA teams asking a million questions about each player .. during those calls and meetings, a lot of things surface about certain team's plans. A lot of guess work, but a lot of clues nonetheless.

I really hope Toronto skips ahead of GS for the #1 pick so I can watch the three lankiest dudes play on the same front-court (Anthony Davis, Jonas, Bargani).

And we get the 8th pick of course.

I like Kanter, but I heart Jonas. I know it is irrational, Kanter beat him every time they played, but love is blind. I just hope for Jazz sake that KOC was smarter than me....again.

Did you tell him about the treasure hunts and reunions that we will have in a far away land? That might be the most important part of this thread.

Haha .. he knows about my treasure hunts and has seen some of the stuff I've found .. though I guess I should have mentioned that that, as well, is becoming a 'Jazz thing.'

Thanks again for sharing the information that you are getting. I am waiting for the day that Cy has some juicy tidbit for us. I won't hold my breath though.

I should have asked Michael if the 'terrible takes' was referring to Cy .. but I was afraid he would be too honest and say it was actually that PKM guy.

Do you ever wonder if Cy is the ultimate troll? I mean he will fool us for a period of time and then he will just try and contradict everything that we say for another short period of time. Maybe Cy has us all right where he wants us.

Just food for thought.

Assuming this was MKG it's too bad he playing himself into at least the top 5 of the draft. If we somehow end up with Golden State's pick and he dropped to 8 I would be so stoked.

I agree with this but it is such a small chance of happening that I will not thin about it anymore.

As always, thanks for sharing. I am sure everyone not named Cyrone Torbin would be ecstatic if we were in a position to draft MKG.

Most everyone (not mocks) thinks he's going 3 - 5. Highest I've heard him is #2 and lowest I've heard him his #6. My guess would be 5, give or take a spot.

God damn, MKG could be the guy that finally turns around our miserable perimeter defense. Culture change.

Obviously, to have a shot at him we need the 8th pick and to trade up........ slim slim chance.

Haha .. there's a Jazz movement happening. TJones just texted me that he's going to try to catch the Jazz game tonight. Gillie spreading the word, lol.

Jones also asked me where the Jazz were picking. :(

I'd tell you to tell him to come on our treasure hunt with us, but I'd much rather have Terrence come so I can offer him some Scooby Snacks.

Ugh...Jazz better play well tonight.
