What's new

Following potential 2012 draftees

I think he's the best fit for us. I love MKG, but we need shooting more than anything, and that's obviously his biggest flaw. And Miller is too inconsistent. I would still take him, if our pick is between 8-12 though. But if destiny likes us again, and we get the #3 pick, we take Barnes. I wouldn't even have to think about it.

Incidentally, I no longer feel Barnes will go #3. Teams I've talked to are saying he's around 4-6 depending on who's picking where.

Wow Marshall with some amazing drives today and a clutch tough 3 pointer.....but he made a very bad decision when UNC was down 1 and UNC lost.

Kentucky and UNC both lost today? Interesting.

I haven't seen Marshall play live since the Duke game, but his numbers continue to impress me.

I'm also warming up to Barnes. Deep down, I'm hoping the Jazz's record keeps dropping, so we can get lucky and get our third #3 pick in a row to draft Barnes and solve our SF and shooting problems.

I could just see the signs at ESA draft night Utah jazz 3peat

I didn't see the UNC game today. Those that I spoke with said that Marshall played the first half very tentative and FSU got in his head .. then he had the fortitude to overcome it and get things together in the second.

Interesting. Good news for us though, if his stock has fallen a bit. If we don't get lucky in the lottery, I'm hoping we can trade Jefferson/Millsap/Harris/ a pick in some way to move up and grab him. We seem to have enough pieces to trade up, and I wouldn't be surprised if KOC doesn't pull the trigger on any major trade before the deadline for this very reason.

Iona in th tourney!

Edit: Scott Machado .. it's a play-in game against BYU! Love it. Winner plays Marquette. A very, very good test. (3rd seed, is Marquette)

Solid game for him. His game will probably be akin to a 30+ year old Jason Kidd....if he can hit an NBA three.
After watching Lillard play a few times, I don't think it's remotely close who is the better prospect.

Who should have made it over them in your opinion?

Many. If you look at the spirit of the field of 64/68, it's about which teams have the best likelihood of making a run in the tourney. I think, for example, MissSt would beat Iona 4 out of 5 games.

The little I've seen of Barnes says that he's got pretty much everything a star basketball player needs except good BBall IQ. I don't understand why he settles for jumpers and fade aways against smaller and less athletic opponents. It also seems like he doesn't play within the system and does a lot of ISO. I still take Barnes at 3 though.

One player that I am going to keep an eye on is Doug McDermott of Creighton. I know that he has been discussed here already, but I am anxious to see him play. Lately I have been less than impressed with the top 3 choices at SF in MKG, Barnes and especially Miller.

I have been looking at other names that could work. McDermott is just one of them. Other guys include CJ Leslie of NC State, Jeffery Taylor of Vanderbilt and even the suggestion of Tony Mitchell of North Texas has got me looking into him.

Lets just say that the last 2 weeks from the top 3 SF's in the draft have been underwhelming. It might be worth it to look outside of those three and move down slightly in the draft to get someone that could be a better fit for the Jazz.

If I missed anyone else please let me know and add to this list.

I just don't know who would be worth trading down to get .. and what we have to give up, or get, to do so. There's just a ton of questions. Are you asking if there's simply another SF, that could be great, that we haven't discussed?

Yes. Maybe someone not as polished like Barnes or glamorous like MKG or Miller.

Certainly they would have to have a ton of potential.
