What's new

Following potential 2012 draftees

His athletic #'s in combine (and from what I have seen) suggest he could guard 2,3, and 4's effecitively. Has enough quickness and mobility to be a SF, was projected as being a SF coming out of college. I think Philly just uses him as a PF because they already have too many wing players.

Young would have been a monster in Sloan's system with Dwill. Would have been like Brewer minus the extreme shooting defiency.

I think I just threw up a little in my pants.

Now that sounds interesting. But I agree no way do we want that collection of spare parts taking up salary space. I like Young as a player but not for this team.

We need shooters and a franchise PG. I think Kanter and Favors will anchor the D in the middle and Hayward has proven to be an excellent defender, not sure why we need an upgrade there.

I think that burks has the ability to become a good shooter. Wade was not a good shooter out of college. Not comparing the two, but I think Burks has the "it" factor that it takes to become really good and constantly improve. His mid range game looked really good when he was getting burn. More time is all he needs.

A guy that has stopped shooting threes - but when he did shot 34% - can't be considered a "shooter".

The Jazz are not really in a position where it would be wise to be adding guys that hardly even try to spread the floor, and when they shoot shots, they barely shoot above 34%.

The Jazz also don't need small SGs.

Hawes is untradeable. Literally. He's a UFA after this year and the deadline has passed.

More important than all of this, is the Jazz should be looking to trade two nickels for a dime. Or a nickel for a nickel. Trading Al for those guys is trading a nickel for three pennies.

Four pennies.

Burks could get his shot together, but obviously no guarantee. I think we need to get someone that can shoot and slash to play with Burks and Hayward.

Even though everyone always says it's easy to get shooters, we don't have any, and I think it's our bigger need (at the moment) than PG or a SF.

Getting shooters isn't as hard as getting a franchise player, but it's not necessarily easy either. Gathering shooters in the NBA is simply a matter of a franchise's commitment to having shooters. Setting a standard of skill-sets for position. The Jazz FO do a better job than most of the NBA IN GENERAL, but if I had one qualm to raise about how the organization operates, it's that it hasn't showed much in terms of committing to having good shooters. It's not just personnel, it's the type of shots you strive for on the floor. It's finding players that have spots behind the arc that will fit into your offense and ENCOURAGING to shoot those shots when they have them.

Shooting is much more than just hitting shots, shooting allows a team to operate inside better. The Jazz have not shown a commitment to the most fundamental skill in basketball, and they're not the only ones. What the Spurs do currently is much more than being lucky enough to have Duncan, Ginobili, and Parker.

Good post, Numb. I couldn't agree more. When I say I want shooters on the perimeter, it's more about spacing than the extra 1pt a 3 gives you. I want to open up driving lanes, have better spacing for our bigs, and just generally be able to have more options with the offensive sets. That requires outside shooters, slashers, passing, ball-handling .. you know, basketball players.

the last page of this thread is suggesting a pick: Rivers.

I also think we should be combing the 2nd round for plain-and-simple shooters. Who belongs on this list? John Jenkins..... ..... .....

Darius Miller is a 6'8 235lb SF that has shot 47% from 3 the last couple years. Was named the nations best 6th man. Mid-range, long-range, post moves, excellent defender. Awesome teammate. There are a couple pages about him probably about 15 pages, or so, back.

Yes, indeed, Miller belongs on the list.

Well, if you are looking for an athletic 3 man who can also hit 3's at a high rate, that is hard to find. Batum in FA would be the only player that could possibly be available to us.

Not buying Lillard goes that high .. and I am soooooo not high on JLamb.

OT: I HATE that 'Bazz could be a bruin tonight. What a cottam waste..

No kidding, But I have been hearing and reading that Nelrens and Bazz will end up in KY withthe biggest hold up for them being that they dont want to be compared to Davis and MKG. I hope to see them both in blue.
