Following potential 2013 draftees

So... Marcus Smart, McCollum, Kobongo or Nate Walters?

McCollum.

Dal's guy deserves a shout out, though: Trey Burke. He's averaging 18.3 points, 8.0 assists in their first 3 games of the season, while shooting 44% from 3 on 5.3 attempts. He's playing on ESPN2 tonight at 7:30 MST, for anyone who wants to watch.

SI.com's Chris Mannix has an upcoming story on Calipari's ability to develop pros, and he posted some quotes from NBA evaluators online about the four UK freshmen. To sum up the general feeling about each:

Noel: Needs polish offensively, great defensively, surprising showcase of effort.

Poythress: Great body and talent, works better at a 4 but needs to develop a perimeter game for the NBA (they all see him as a small forward).
(Chad said he thinks Alex is a sleeper to go #1.)

Goodwin: Great athleticism, dynamic playmaker, but plays out of control at times and doesn't function great as a point guard at this stage.

Cauley-Stein: Mixed. All think he has underdeveloped potential but most see him as possessing the tools to become a solid pro, possibly after this year.

From Chad's chat today;

Q: Does Roy Williams not get the most out of his players? It appears that Macadoo is
doing teh same thing that Barnes did. A big recruit that isn't playing
up to the potential.

Chad Ford (1:41 PM) It's a question I was discussing with a number of GMs yesterday. Obviously
UNC gets a lot of blue chip talent which means they're going to be good
no matter what. But how many of those players actually develop or get
better while they are at UNC? I can name a bunch of players at Kentucky
who improve their games with Cal. Much harder to come up with examples
among the elite UNC recruits. Not sure how much development they get
there.

UK played tonight, my take;

Wiltjer - Played like ****. 9pts, 4rbs

Harrow - Still out.

WCS - Played very unimpressively. 2pts, 4rbs, 1blk

Poythress - Still lacking a consistent motor .. not motor as much as it is killer instinct. Was invisible most of the game. Did all his damage, twice, after Calipari lit his *** up. 20pts, 8rbs (I think he's just taking things slowly as he adjusts to this level of bb.)

Noel - He is not overrated. A little raw, needs strength, but is the real deal. Biggest hustler on the floor for 40 minutes. 9pts (3/4), 11rbs, 4asts, 6blks, 3stls

Goodwin - Good God his speed and athleticism reminds me of one guy.. Wall. He's unstoppable off the dribble and the dude just wants to kill everyone around him.. epitome of killer instinct. Making much better decisions only after 3 games. No telling what he'll do when Harrow returns and he gets to move off the ball..
28pts, 6rbs, 4asts, 3blks (kid is scary fast and athletic)

Just saw the highlights of this game on SC...did you see the spat between the HC and PG for Morehead? Pretty ugly. The HC sort of shoved the kid and was relentlessly going off on him...near the end of the game I think right after the kid fouled out.

Yeah. It was pretty intense. Too intense in my opinion. Camera was panned in on the kid as he started to tear up. Unfortunately, the coach has his jersey hanging at Rupp or I'd even be tougher on him. I didn't like it.

Agreed.

Who's the coach?

Wow .. just went to the main UK board and was surprised to see so many UK fans livid with Sean Woods (coach) and defending the player.

Woods is one of 'ours' and a beloved ex-player. Kind of cool to see the fans calling for his head for treating the guard like total ****, after he played his guts out all night..
