Just for arguments sake.
What is least important position on a team?
Maybe point guard?
Consider top five PGs right now
Rose, Paul, D Williams, etc.
How many have won a title?
Jazz do need a good PG but should it be top priority at the #14 if a far better player is available?

You could say that about centers too. So the Jazz should just have traded Stockton because he never won a championship or wasn't important to the team's success. Unfortunately, basketball is a team game and therefore all positions are important and when drafting a team takes talent over need but if the talent is the same then a team should look at the position. On the Jazz the greatest need is a PG.

To answer you question No if there is a better player but who is to say the best player won't be a PG.

Terribly flawed argument, imo.

I would say SF.. but no matter what position is suggested someone will say, yeah, but what about defending (insert name) or something.. so this debate ends no where but circles.. but I would say either SG or SF.
 
If Adams is the BPA at 14 then take him. The Jazz could use a third big and Evans could get a little burn in the right situations. If the Jazz draft a big there is NO reason to bring back Millsap or AJ, which I am all for since both want big money. A rotation of Favors/Kanter/Adams would be awesome.
 
If Jazz picked Adams does anyone think Favors could play SF and have Favors Adams and Kanter on floor at same time?

SG?? Burks and Hayward should improve. Toss in a specialty shooter, and that leaves me satisfied.

if I had to rank our most pressing needs with players currently signed to 2013-2014, I would address it as follows:


1) Point guard
2) Small Forward
3) 3rd big.


- Our point guard situation is a disaster. We had numerous late-clock turnovers, and several games (Milwaukee, Atlanta) come to mind where poor ball-handling and offensive possessions led to other teams defeating us. We don't need one of the best point guards of the league-- we simply need a leader of an offense who can beat a full-court press, make the right pass, and punish teams who leave him to double Kanter or Favors. This is why I have been so fond of Burke for like 2-3 years now-- sure his athleticism isn't precedental, and his finishing ability could use some fine tuning, but he's a superb floor general, he will be reliable in late-game situations, and he can make his teammates better. Unfortunately, his stock skyrocketed over the past few months-- but perhaps McCollum or Schröder can fit the aforementioned descriptions, and be at least a George Hill-level point guard. 'Tis all I ask.

- Small Forward. This question becomes easier to answer once we know what type of player Alec Burks is. If Burks can morph into a Harden-LITE from his OKC years when he was the main ball-handler off the bench (emphasis on lite), then we can work with Hayward at the 2, meaning we'd need a defensive 3 point specialist, which would be enough. In my opinion, we do not need an elite SF to carry our offense. In fact, I would be fine with Demarre Carroll starting games at SF if our offense is always running from our guards to our bigs. Spurs won championships with Bruce Bowen-- and the Bulls won championships with Ron Harper. I'd be fine with Carrol getting ~25 mpg, as well as the start. Most importantly, I feel like this need could be addressed in the 2014-2015 offseason, when we could be ready for an okay playoff run.


- 3rd big: Tomic or Millsap. Millsap only if he would accept coming off the bench-- he's an ideal third big, and he'd punish almost every single bench in the league. Also, he's got okay defensive IQ as far as rotations are concerned, so he wouldn't slack with a lineup as good defensively as, say, Schröder/Hayward/Carroll/Favors, for example. Tomic would also be spectacular, and would command double teams pretty effectively IMO. We are seeing how much of a pain in the *** defending a 7'2" guy can be (see Pacers v. Miami), and Tomic has taken massive strides. Finding a third big is super important for this team-- I just pray that our FO doesn't think the answer is Jefferson. Even someone like Elton Brand wouldn't be brutal
 
dal I agree with a lot that you said but change sf to wing.

I want nothing to do with millsap. didnt like his pouting.

I would love to see bazz on the jazz.

and nab the shooting guard Harrison, Aaron I think.

if we could get zeller we would have Hayward, the Hayward of pgs and the Hayward of pfs
