Following potential 2014 draftees

I'm starting to think he might. The Jazz wouldn't leak they like Exum because he is mocked higher than where they stand. That accomplishes nothing.

Not necessarily. Maybe Utah really likes Vonleh. Exum is slipping a bit (some mocks have Vonleh in the top-4) and they want someone to take Exum at #4. There's a consensus top-3 and then a group rated fairly evenly as "Tier 2" players. I think the Orlando slot is key. They could easily decide to trade down. The teams picking below Utah all need PG's - even Boston, who will likely trade Rondo at some point rather than having him walk away for nothing. So if Boston, LA or Sacramento believe Utah will take Exum, they'll try to trade up with either Utah or Orlando. Utah then ends up with Vonleh at #5, or drops a couple of spots and takes a player like Gordon or Smart PLUS picks up another asset in the process.

You take them in a heartbeat. That's Chad Ford just fishing for something to write about. Jabari and Embiid are off the board by 3 at the latest.

Side note: watching Kawhi Leonard last night got me substantially more excited about an Aaron Gordon or Noah Vonleh. Long, athletic, cerebral, two-way players who can make an impact all over the floor. Kawhi has that little extra something special, though.

There's still two weeks to go. I fully expect Cleveland to do something squirrely in that time. I also would not be at all surprised to see Vonleh, Exum, or Gordon do a miracle jump and knock Jabari to at least 4. Look at what's transpired with Randle in the last couple of weeks. He was pretty much a lock at the 5 pick for months.

If Jabari does slip to 4 I'd hope the Jazz try to nab him. I like Gordon more and more, too. Exum makes me nervous because he's touted at the PG position, which we don't especially need -- especially at the 5th pick. Combine that with his overall mystery and it would be too much for me. Then again, I've got raisins instead of grapefruit in my pants...

Jabari, Gordon, and Vonleh all seem like they'd "fit". Obviously either of the KU guys slipping would be a no-brainer, even if there are "concerns" about Embiid's back and the develop time for Wiggins.

I just said I'd be happy if we could nab any of the top 3 for a swap, and I stand by that, but I would love for us to get a hidden gem with that latter pick as well (if we don't use it to move up). I'm a Cleanthony Early homer, as I work at Wichita State, and think he'll find a spot for a team with his energy, defense, and ability to shoot the 3. And Napier would be a good pick, too, I think at that point. He'd prefer to start, I'm sure, but if you're drafted lower than 20 you've got to really be prepared to earn your way. I know Neto is in the wings as well, but if he's not coming over this year I'd assume we might look at a PG with the second pick or the second round pick and then have veteran in there as well (Diante or anyone without a III at the end of their name).

EDIT: And yes, I know Napier is short. I'd still rather have him than any of the other PGs projected around that spot in the draft.

Dante Exum will work out with Milwaukee over the weekend and for Orlando early next week, per source.

Nothing in utah.....yet.

He isn't going to workout for Utah. He knows if he slips out of the top 4, the worst case scenario (in terms of position drafted) is Boston or LA takes him, which is what he probably wants. Doubt he wants to slip out of the top 4 and to be taken by a team with a PG in place, that happens to be Utah.

It's going to be interesting to see what they say about him, though I wouldn't give much credence to what is reported.

Trying to figure out if this might be a smokescreen from Cleveland about medical red flags on Embiid:

How would putting this out (unless it's true) help their competitive position? The only thing I can think of is that maybe they're trying to scare Philly (that the Cavs might take Wiggins), and have Philly raise whatever offer they've already made to swap picks. But what do the Sixers have that would even interest the must-win-now Cavs?

All of this. I'll be shocked if Exum works out for the Jazz.

That's basically all I can think of too. The T-Wolves sent up similar smokescreens days before the 2011 draft cause they knew the Jazz wanted Kanter over Derrick Williams.

ok, what SHOULD the Jazz do at #5?
Kevin Pelton

Now that depends on who's available! But I would be picking between Exum, Vonleh and perhaps Clint Capela.

I haven't seen anything else where Capela has been up high in the lottery.

Not sure about validity of that. That's for the top 3 teams to worry about.

I think Pelton did a statistical analysis of the euro crop and Capela showed well in it, came out with a projected 3.4 Warp. Exum was 3.2, Nurkic was 3.3. So he's statistically high on Capela and those 2 others as well I guess.

I like Cappella, but figure he'd be long gone by 23. That rumor is just strange. Fwiw, I have liked Hood, Capella and Staskus to rise on draft day, but it looks like they are rising in the mocks and rumors now too.

Locke told DJ this morning that two weeks before the draft everyone is lying, even Randy Rigby. So I don't know what to make of Capella rumours or the story about Cleveland leaking Embiids back reports.

Other odd news...

Randle did a private work out for the Sixers. https://www.philly.com/philly/blogs...com&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

And Rodney Hood cancels workout in Sacramento.

And Exum to the Bucks...Bogus, one source said. “(Exum) is a real option for them, because of the size and the upside,” the source said. “Nobody there is approaching this like, ‘I need to save my job.’ You don’t do that in a draft. In free agency, that is a different story. But no one is going to save their job in the draft. If Exum is as good as they think he will be, they’d pull the trigger.” https://www.sportingnews.com/nba/st...wiggins-jabari-parker-joel-embiid-cavs-76ers/
