I really like Gordon's game but he's not a franchise guy. I think 5 is early for him. Hard to stomach that after the year of ******** we just watched.

The FO went into this season with clear intentions to tank and reap the rewards. Fingers crossed they've got something up their sleeves tomorrow night.

But.... Like in a million years I wouldn't trade #5 for MKG. So is Gordon not worth it? You're not really convincing me that Gordon will be a better player.

If he has a work ethic, he'll be a better player.

That's all the draft is about to me anyways and why it's a crapshoot. Whichever players work hardest will likely be the best. Gordon seems like he can guard 1-3 no problem without having to work on anything so that's probably worth a pick at #5. I'm leaning Gordon, but I like Randle's offense, despite all the obvious issues with him. Those two guys present way more risk than Vonleh, who is a safe, bland pick to me. A good player, and will be the best one if the other two don't pan out. Despite hating Smart, he's pretty good, but I don't think he'll ever be an incredibly efficient playmaker in the NBA, but it's probably because I hate him.

MKG is an obvious comparison, there are some around here who have convinced themselves otherwise.

The last defensive player that wasnt a legitimate Big to go top 5 was MKG. (that alone makes him comparison worthy)

Look at their freshman seasons lined up side to side it's basically identical in scoring, rebounding, assists, blocks,steals, FG%.. their combine measurements are similar aswell.

1) Stay at #5 and darft Gordon

2) Move up to #1 and darft Wuggins

3) Move up to #2 and darft Jabari

4) Stay at #5 and darft Vonleh

5) Stay at #5 and darft Smart

This seems pretty solid. Still unsure how I feel about Gordon. If the Jazz really like him, then I'm excited. Otherwise I find him difficult to peg.

Don't forget he's 18, and plays out of position, he played point forward in high school. Vonleh was badly underused, and yet in only 26 minutes a game he was an 11/9 guy in the college restrictive offense on a really bad team with little talent in a major conference. You are again grasping at straws again. What the hell is wrong with his demeanor?

Vonleh seems insecure around media at this point. It doesn't come natural talking about himself. But he's shown a lot of facets on the court that indicate huge potential to polish.
I really stopped caring about guys who follow the superstar media mogul hype of demanding 18 yo kids to be Kobe and expect that's required to be successful.
There's so many great winners in the NBA who aren't publicly displaying their swagger, cut-throat mentality and still were successful individually and even more as a team.

The crappy Cleveland browns sold 1500 season tickets the day after they drafted Manziel. Just sayin'.

Yeah but if you're confident about Wiggins long term, then you take him. Because it's not about the 1500 tickets in year one and two. It's about the sell out crowds with 20% ticket raises in years 4 through 9 at least.
If the Jazz go with Jabari it means they think he's the better prospect. Anything else doesn't make sense in a closed shop like the NBA.

I like Gordon, but why doesn't anyone compare him to Kidd-Gilchrist? Defensive specialist who is super athletic and can't shoot. Not saying it's the same player but I haven't even seen one "watch out, remember Kidd-Gilchrist?" Warning.

He has been compared to MKG in the past. I for example did it.

When talking about top 5 picks these parts of intangibles are far from crucial, deal-breaking elements.

At what point did demeanor and BBIQ become big issues concerning 18 year olds in the draft?

This seems new to me.

Some might make the case that players with questionable demeanor and low BBIQ went #1 and #7 last year.

look at past drafts too...

How do you think Qyntel Woods went #7 overall? or Johnathan Bender 5th in 1999? were the teams bamboozled into thinking these players had passable BBIQ and demeanor? probably not. I'd say they most likely didn't care about it all that much. They projected these players into a certain role, and planned to work on the BBIQ from there, in the framework of the teams system and that made them comfortable enough to pull the trigger at those spots.

Some here are turning a blind eye to the steak and potatoes(skill-set) because they're too busy crying about the asparagus.

Id have an easier time entertaining this BBIQ and Demeanor concern as a legitimate issue worthy of passing on him, if we're talking about a Derrick Character, Lance Stephenson, Caron Butler or Javaris Crittenton.

Here is my point Aaron Gordon while young shows some great characteristics as a leader and basketball player which we don't have on this team. Those things are necessary to win in this league. Conley does not seem to have as much potential as a leader to me. Both players have their pluses and minuses... I would prefer Gordon's pluses and minuses.

If you don't think bbiq and demeanor matter I don't think you are paying attention to the teams that are winning in this league. I understand you have to have talent as well, but work ethic, iq and personality are talents as well.
