The Guangdong Tigers announced Tuesday that Mudiay had signed a contract with them. The deal is believed to be one year for about $1.2 million.

Nice. I was thinking maybe $700,000 when I first read he was going there in this thread.
Yeah saw that. If he does well I wonder if this could become a trend?
I think so, because it's more likely to be mutually beneficial and justifiable for Chinese teams. The Italian team that got Brandon Jennings probably wasn't happy with their deal. He was a bench player. Scored 5 pts/game. There aren't many 18/19 year old that could go and put up stats in Euroleague or even make a difference. So what's the point of even bringing those American kids over for a year before they jump to the NBA for Euro teams? Other than some PR benefits before it becomes old hat, It doesn't really do anything.
In China, however, it's a huge power play. A championship type move. Guandong doesn't have any good guards and they still made the semi-finals. Mudiay should be featured, he'll be paired with Yi Jialian and they could legitimately win a championship.
How much do the highest paid players get paid in China? I mean, could the next obviously transcendent stud (Lebron) be offered one year, 10M?
Mudiay would have fit the European game way better. Stronger body, really strong slasher. Makes up for a lot of youthful mistakes.
But let's face it, he won't get more than 10 min. a game.
Well that totally depends.
There have been impact player at his age in European leagues. But you may be right. If he wanted max money out of that year he'd have warmed a bank for Madrid, Athens or whatever. There's smaller niche clubs who are great at player development where he would have seen 30 min a night at a $300k/year contract
Exactly.
Remember how many minutes Rubio got? Not many, if any.
I like KP, but with caution. His stats are meh and his ft% is bad..
Cautiously optimistic.
Tbh, I just don't know. I don't follow int'l.Where would you take him if he had entered the '14 draft?
I would have picked him before Smart & Vonleh, tbh. HUGE potential.

probably around 10. Agree on his upside, but scoring 5.9pts and 2.7rbs in the ACB (in 15min) at 22 years old doesnt scream OMG!!! to me.
