With that quick release, there is no defense on Russell, you just have to hope the shot isn't falling. As a freshman, especially the last 10 or so games of the season, that happened enough. As he gets older, the shot should become more consistent and at that point defenses are effed. And of course the great thing about Russell is that even in the shot isn't going in, he does other things to help his team.
The first pass and last pass shown in that youtube clip are just sick. He had a pass in the first half of the Arizona game to Thompson that wasn't converted for points - so not on any highlight video - that was one of the best I've seen. The feel for the game and vision he has as just a freshman are unreal.
