Following potential 2015 draftees

This is really a misconception. If we don't have decent perimeter defenders, teams don't need to get into the paint. They just shoot from outside. Or Rudy leaves his man to cover and the ball is dished to the opposing center for an easy basket. There were plenty of times Rudy was posterized last year.

But why do we need to have offense and no defense or vice-versa? The term of the day is "3 and D." Is there a player like McBuckets in the draft? You don't take him. Is there a player like Carroll? You take him. Utah has the luxury of bringing any player along slowly. He doesn't need to start or even play major minutes this season. Take a player with a good stroke who shows willingness to play balls out on defense. Or take a good defender who is showing signs of improving on offense. I trust Quin and DL to evaluate the best prospect in terms of both what he has to offer now and how they think he will develop.

Yeah, I stand by what I said. Guarding the perimeter is easier when those players can concentrate on guarding against outside shots and don't have to worry so much about their players getting by them. Add to that we already have 2 starters that limit us offensively, we don't need more defensive specialists that struggle offensively. Those players can be found rather easily, and we already have one in Lilsap. Utah needs better shooting, not more defensive specialists. If they can find a 2-way player, even better, but if we're choosing between a defensive specialist and a shooter, the decision should be a no-brainer.

I don't think there should be any question about this. The impact of Gobert is such that it makes it much easier for our perimeter defenders, because they don't really have to guard against players driving past them. They can concentrate on guarding the perimeter and if their guy gets past them, he'll either get swatted or he'll chicken out and reset. Because of this we shouldn't be looking for guys who are great defenders, but limited offensively. Utah needs to improve their offense, and more specifically, we need shooting.
Booker?

Once again you didn't do it during a NBA level workout and it wasn't from the NBA three-point line.

If I have done it ever then it's not that impressive I'm sorry. Open shots in rythym uncontested.... He should hit 80% of those. Dekker made 16 out of 25 and he's not a good shooter. I'm not going to be impressed when a guy does about what he should. Let's say he hit 22ish... I'd be impressed.

While most of the lottery picks declined the athletic testing, Booker did his today.
Led the entire combine in both lane agility (10.22) and shuttle run (2.75).

If the Jazz are choosing between a shooter who can't play defense and a defensive specialist who can't shoot, they should just trade the pick. Kanter is a GREAT offensive player. But look how teams do when they have him on the court. Same with Boozer or Big Al. Good teams simply CANNOT have one-way players. We've had a few of those both on offense and defense. And their weaknesses get exploited on one end of the court.

I do get what you are saying about Gobert allowing the perimeter players to be more aggressive. But they can't be sieves. Even with Elijah and Dante giving Utah little on offense and Trey chucking up shots at his inefficient rate, the JAzz were 19-10 after the break...after they decided to become a defensive team. That's a 53+ win pace. Utah needs to be very careful about creating any holes in their defense. Because teams WILL exploit wherever that weakness is, making the other 4 players, including Gobert, much less effective.

Smoke screen?

Willie Cauley-Stein met with Larry Bird of the Indiana Pacers and the Hall of Famer didn't hide how highly he rates him.

Cauley-Stein emerged as one of the best defensive players in college basketball this season.

"'I think you’re a $100 million dollar player.’ I hear that and I’m like, ‘Really?!’" said Cauley-Stein about comments made to him by Bird.

The Pacers believe Cauley-Stein would work well as a center with Paul George playing as a small-ball four.

"They see me as a player in the five position & put Paul (George) at the four. Now I’ll have a mismatch…"

I like a lot of players in this draft. No favorites, just really impressed with the depth. I SHOULD be happy with whoever they pick. Hopefully.

Ok, so Utah should only have players that are great on offense and defense. Even though we are drafting at 12, we should trade the pick if we can't find a great 2-way player. Ok, I think we're done here.

Turner is looking way better to me than WCS. Am I missing something?

Yes. WCS shows the ability to guard 4's and 5's. In my mind thee is less bust potential with WCS then anyone in the draft he has great athletic ability to go with great defensive instincts. Has potential to be a top 5 C in the league down the line.

This is classic WCS.

Larry Bird: You are a 100M player.
WCS - Really?

Haha .. Love WCS. Such a humble fun-loving kid.

DX just released their updated move draft. Team needs have NOT been taken into account yet but I still like who they have the Jazz drafting.

I'm down with Booker but with Burks, hood, Hayward as our main wings and jingles/lilsap as our fill in wings I'm not sure the pick helps us real soon. Then again, I want super Mario and he is a wing too.

I do think Booker could be pretty good though.

Hell, I don't really like anyone who will be there at 12. I guess im hoping for oubre (another wing) and hoping he ends up being kahwi leonard.

I think it's really interesting that a team like the GSW are looking (reportedly) for even more shooting.

Every team needs more, especially the Jazz.
